Is It EVER Too Late To Achieve Your Dreams?

With my recent post about me moving (and looking at my [eventual] Los Angeles move), it had me thinking- do you EVER think it's too late to achieve your dreams?

Me, NEVER. Even though, back in 2002, I jokingly said that it would take me 80 years to graduate high school and college (I graduated HS in 2005, college in 2013, despite the fact I am back taking IT classes), I am now like, it's NEVER too late to achieve your dream; right now, I'm working on 1) moving to the L.A. area (as I've said many times before) and 2) taking IT classes so I can achieve that dream of working in IT for somewhere in L.A.

Even though I'm 30, I am now hopeful as ever about my life than I ever was in my 20s.

I consider my dreams to be stupid and unobtainable.

I believe every dream is unattainable at the moment it is conceived. For the manner in which we imagine things we desire, the way that particular success will make us feel, is unreal. Getting what you want is never what you expected when you first set out to lay hold of it. But, life sometimes brings other things unlooked for that are fulfilling, enjoyable, challenging and in the long run, good for us and those around us.

All dreams are attainable, and mine are huge.

I'm going for mine now and I'm 47.

Even though I have days like today when I'm so overloaded and burnt out I only managed an hour and a half of work, when I needed to do 10.

Just don't ever give up.

My attitude is that even if I spend the next 30 years trying and still fail, that's really ok.

At least I tried.

It's not ok to not try (for me).

My first thought when I read the title was "well obviously, I mean when you're dead it's a bit late".

Then I realised you didn't mean that literally.

No. Never.
Your dreams will never be handed to you on a plate. You will have to create opportunities for yourself and work like a mule to get there. And you will get there if you don't give up.

Yes - some dreams have to be put aside eventually. If you dream of being a professional golfer and haven't done anything about it by your 30th birthday then it is too late. However, if you made an attempt to be a professional golfer and failed that would still be a very powerful thing to have done.

If you don't take steps to achieve your dreams they will decay and become regrets. Do not let your dreams turn into regrets. Many people confuse the difference between remorse and regret. Remorse is - things that you did that you wish you had not done and everybody has done those (I certainly have my share ). Nothing can be done about that because they are in the past. Accept it, swallow the remorse and move on. Regret on the other hand is derived from failure to act on things that we wanted to do, but failed to act on because of (usually) externally imposed influences. Remorse is toxic and the toxicity increases with each year that we don't attempt to pursue our dreams.

As a hypothetical - how do you think you will feel (at say age 70) knowing that you never attempted to do so many things that really mattered to you and realising with absolute certainty that they will never eventuate because it is now too late.

I strongly believe that you are doing the right thing pursuing your dreams - good luck and if it doesn't work out exactly as you now envisage (hint - it never does) I'm confident that you will not regret the positive action you are now taking.

No dream is stupid.
Trying to obtain it is what is called 'life experience'. It really doesn't matter all that much if you attain your original dream goal or not. The experiences you have while travelling towards it are what is called life. Don't waste it. Take risks, enjoy the successes and learn from the failures.
Do not become an angry 70 y.o. who will soon again become one with the stars having failed to make some use from being given the gift of sentience for a few short decades.

No, I do not give up on having dreams although the particular dreams I am in pursuit of may change over time.

I am glad that you have stuck it out in pursuit of your own dreams and are still hopeful.
