Is a toaster oven worth it?

I think Mary Terry is right in that there was probably a hairline stress fracture or maybe even just an uneven pressure in a particular spot in the porcelain. When conditions were just perfect it split.

Ironically that's essentially a better description of what happened with my bottle of Taco Bell hot sauce. The bottle didn't break, but you could see the fracture lines. That was the cracking sound I heard.

Can you visit a charity shop, Good Will store, Salvation Army store, or thrift shop? You should be able to get some good glass containers for a couple of dollars at those places.

It sounds like you are in an untenable situation, and I wish you could get out of that house and live somewhere else.
Thanks, I'll have a look around. Used glassware is a little disgusting but beggars can't be choosers haha
Then again maybe the manufacturer of the bottles simply changed their glass formula. I really have no idea why this happened. Though I suppose such a random possibility was always "in the cards". Something I had to deal with in considerations of product liability as an underwriter. Though the culprit was usually tainted product, not a tainted container.

Apparently Pyrex has done this to save costs so newer ones crack more easily

I think I've also used porcelain in a microwave before....without incident. Hmmmmmm, maybe use of such things just translates into "borrowed time" ?

It does work most of the time

My dad insults and punches me whenever he sees me so I don't like spending time outside my room. I can cook carbs quickly because of oatmeal and pressure cookers but meat requires using a pan in the kitchen for about 30min.

I keep a fridge in my room and am planning to buy a small pressure cooker and maybe an oven so I won't have to leave my room except to wash my dishes.

Using the toaster oven, I can simply place the meat on a plate, add some salt/spices and wait for a while. Not using a pan also means that I can spend less time outside washing stuff. If I use this (small) oven will I be able to do most of my cooking in my own room?
I think what's really important is that you get help due to your abusive dad.

I can't but I appreciate your concern. It's fairly normal anyway I heard parents used to use the belt on their children. Besides my freezer has a few ice packs which minimise the bruising, it should still work once I convert it into a fridge

By the way, there's been loads of useful stuff in this thread. Although I'm probably not going to get an oven now (fire safety), I realised from reading the replies that it would be better to convert my freezer. This way, I can get milk and tofu other stuff for protein. Less cooking needed and I'm looking forward to eating sandwiches too!

If you dedicate some time to becoming a skilled home chef, maybe your dad will be a lot easier on you. Good food makes people happy and the aroma of a delicious, tasty meal in the works is very powerful.

Anyways, isolating yourself in a room more is not the solution in the long run! Assuming your dad's abuse isn't physical, don't let him limit access to the kitchen.
