Involuntary sniffing anyone?

A weird things , many times when I am at work and walk near someone and say hello( or not) I will always sniffing like 1sec after the interaction , sometime during it thats a bit weird right.

Any one can relate?

My mother in law does this.

I’d always thought it was a subconscious nervous type thing.
I don’t think she even realises she’s doing it.

She fills gaps in conversation with it and always sniffs after she’s finished talking.

It’s a short, sharp sniff. Just one.

Unless it's a physical issue, E.g. a cold or sometimes when you smoke, it can be like a nervous reaction. Another nervous reaction can include some coughing and this can apply to many people including NTs. Have you ever heard anyone cough or clear their throat in a group of people, then all of a sudden it's followed by other people doing the same that were silent for ages beforehand?

I don't sniff, but I've been told I do another involuntary things in nervous situations that often involve interaction with people, I apparently make short low pitch noises that is difficult for me to explain, I don't realise I do it, but I've had horrid people make impressions of me doing it, laughing at me and/or criticise me for it. I think it's some sort of involuntary nervous laugh that comes out more like a low pitch grunt.

I don't but my dogs do all the time. Whenever people or other animals have passed, or even cars. They (dogs) have much more sensitive noses then us. I think some can tell one cars exhaust from another (ie. they know if my wife's car is close by its exhaust).

But its very bad social form for people to notice you doing it, to other people. To objects or things, like a fire or the way the woods smell is accepted, if limited.

Yes and I guess Tourette syndrome isnt just about sniffing, what actually got you diagnosed with this syndrome?

Correct. Strictly speaking you need to have two motor (movement) tics too. So that could being grimacing and jerking your head. You don't actually need to have any swearing tics for a diagnosis however. With that all being said, if you were hypothetically looking for a diagnosis of this condition, good luck, because few doctors actually have done enough research into this condition despite numerous online resources anyone could easily access.

But it could be a tic. There are a few other conditions that have tics as a symptom, Tourette's is just the big one. Transient or Chronic Vocal Tic could be a diagnostic term suitable for you. But, again, goodluck finding a doctor keyed up on these conditions.

Yes, I dont think I have it anyway ,Its just that I want to know what each of my weird stuff is related to but as you say its almost impossible regarding all the commobidities and the fact that doctors arent not realy specialised into this.
It would take me years and cost me a lot i guess.

I had some grimacing before but it wasnt too important, I mean it happened around 10 times or less I think, like the right part of my lips goes down and I cant help it for a sec but thats another thing I guess.

I know someone that litteraly barks when you talk with him , I guess he is closer to tourette than me xD.

Interesting to me, is that some S.E.Asian cultures(Cambodian being one) actually "kiss" by sniffing one another...
