I'm collecting words!

Specifically, words related to autism and neurodivergence. Here are some examples I already have:

  • Stimming

  • Same Food

  • Hyperempathy

  • Sensory Overload

  • Melt Down

  • Shut Down

  • Stim Toy

  • Hyperlexic

  • Echolalia

These are just a few I already know, but I was wondering what words you have that I haven’t learned yet. Bonus points if you know some less common terms and can explain them

Thanks for your help! :elephant:

Propriocepton> the sense of the relative position of one's own parts of the body
and strength of effort being employed in movement

"Comorbidity"

Two or more disorders or illnesses occurring in the same person. Essentially other conditions common to those with a form of autism.

Examples: OCD, Tourette syndrome, depression, ADHD, NVLD, etc..

LFA: Low-functioning autism (basically, those unable to care for themselves in adulthood, due to additional neurological complications/severe co-morbid conditions).

When you get your collection done, maybe you can make a glossary page for this site. I've only been on this site for two days and I've had to Google so many terms.

This is what makes me a bad golfer, poor proprioception. I identified it a long time ago, didn't help.

Pica: Putting non edible items in mouth for sensory satisfaction.

Sensory aid: Something that helps aid a person who has over or under stimulated sense. Examples are fiddle toys and ear defenders.

Perseveration - the uncontrolled repetition or continuation of a response (e.g., behavior, word, thought, activity, strategy, or emotion) in the absence of an ongoing occasion or rationale for that behavior or emotion (e.g., the topic or task requirements have changed).
