Halloween isn’t about dressing up intricately as nobody will care about what my cosplay is. At this point idk what to do. I really like cosplay and said it shouldn’t be done unless there’s a reason to like a costume party. What should I do?

Do it anyway! Have fun with it. Take some photos. Maybe go for a walk and give candy out to little kids in the neighborhood. Get all dressed up and do something mundane like buying groceries. Who cares about a good reason for it if you love doing something.

I’m going with my friend and her younger siblings (11 and 5). I may as well go for it anyways. Screw conformity.

Do it anyway if it brings you joy. You can dress how you like at home even if you don't go anywhere!

A Nordic example: on the feast of St Lucy, young girls would wake up very early and dress all in white with a headdress of lighted candles, and greet the dawn by singing and bringing pastries to other family members. This ended with the Protestant Reformation and a pushback against the celebration of saints' days but it's somehow back in business and St Lucy's day in Sweden remains a day for holiday lights, hymns, and dessert.

A Christmas tradition surviving from pagan solstice traditions in Wales was Mari Lwyd or the Grey Mare, a costume crowned with a horse skull (often the jaw could snap) and accompanied by a fantastic cast of other characters who would go from house to house. Each householder would have to best Mari Lwyd in a rhyming competition else she could enter a house and gallop around chasing small children.

Ah yes the holidays, got to win a rap battle in Welsh against a demonic horse skull before it scares the kids and the people following it eat all my food.

That's a big thing here too, it's a nice tradition. A parade with those lighted headdress candles and stuff. We call it Sankta Lucia.

If you want some inspiration, I walked into a Walgreens in full cosplay mode once.

I was at a convention and was too lazy/impatient to switch to a normal outfit just to buy a jug of milk.

Also I'd had a lot of caffeine. Like, A LOT of it.

If I can do that, you can surely go have some fun with yours, because it's what you want to do.

You can dress up as anything, costume does not have to be complicated. You could throw a few bits together.
