I am giving up most refined sugars.

An aspect of drinks of that nature (Mtn Dw) that is rarely mentioned, is that the alcohol is far from the only unhealthy ingredient. In fact, most if not all alcoholic drinks are classified as ultra processed beverages and carry the same health risks and dangers on top of those caused by alcohol.
In addition many of these products are 'tuned' to be as habit forming as possible and prone to induce over consumption, over and above any effect of the alcohol, just as many soft drinks are, and indeed many ultra processed foods are, and are extremely high in calories to boot.
