Hyperactivity normal for autism?

AspieOtaku

Sometimes I get hyperactive and excited easily when a topic of obsession is brought up like anime or dinosaurs! I dwell on it for long periods of time and get excited easily, is this normal?

This is true. I suppose one must learn to supress their enthusiasm, but sometimes it just feels so good to rant about a favorite topic.

That might be attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Aspergers and ADHD can occur together.

Mind you, I get get easily excited when the topic of railways is brought up. Even more, when it's the Japanese shinkansen.

Yeah it is possible I have ADHD as well.

That is exactly what happens to me. That is the reason I try to avoid certain subjects because I know how quickly I will get lost in them. Years ago I was in a library and found some back issues of a magazine that was about an obsession of mine. I was so excited I started having heartburn. I felt like I had found gold. I started reading the first page with my heart pounding. I read and read. I think I went through them all but I used to get such bad stomach aches while reading. I was so happy about all the information that my body could not relax.

That is how I get. If my body did not get in the way I could learn so much more and faster. I don't like taking breaks when I am interested in something but I have to make myself. I once went 13 hours without stopping, no bathroom or food or drink. My face felt numb.

If this is something normal for other people it would make me feel better.
