How fast can you type?

Topic,

About 9 years ago I did an official speed test for an Employment Agency and they said my speed was 59.5 words per minute, literally half a word too slow to be employed on their books.

So how about you guys? Have you done any typing tests?

I can type very fast, over 100 wpm, if I can look down at the keys and I don't use the correct finger positions or all of my fingers. I'm not sure if that counts, though. In the age of electric typewriters, my mom could type over 200 wpm, and she is pretty fast on a computer keyboard. I always found touch typing pretty tedious and I never got the hang of it.

Do they still give typing tests for employment?

When I was in high school, only girls took typing class. Computers were still years away, so I did not have a reason to learn to type. Now I use the two finger method. On a good day I can type about twenty words per minute. I have to watch the key board, so I do not know about mistakes until I look at the screen. It works for me, after all, I never owned a computer until I was in my late fifties.

In school, about 20wpm (typing copy). As a programmer, much slower. Programming isn't so much words and sentences as it is symbols and a type of shorthand. IMHX, it doesn't lend itself to copy-style typing.

I can type really fast... BUT, its the going back and correcting the countless mistakes that take so long when I do this...
So, I mostly just look at each key while I leave out whole words some times...
Its rediculous really, but much better than if you had to try and read my hard left slanted handwriting.
People say it looks like I write in some alien language... I can read it? : )

120wpm accurately, 150wpm if I'm not worrying about typos. I generally don't ever have opportunity to type with any great speed though, by typing is limit by how fast I can compose the text, and I tend to put thought into what I'm writing.

Above 100 wpm on average.

I've been typing for as long as I know. When I was a teenager, I frequently used MSN to chat with thousands of people and forums. I got real fast at cranking out papers for school.

I can type faster than my shadow.
That's against the law...!
