How do you relate to patterns?

I don't feel I'm always great at it, and sometimes I might see things where there's really not something there, but it's a bit pervasive either way. One thing I was more conscious of when I was younger was trying to predict which episodes of Lost would focus on which character, given the episodic nature of the flashbacks and some seasons seeming to have some kind of pattern or mirroring each end, particularly seasons 2 and 3 to an extent but also the last season seeming to follow pretty closely to the first until it subverts expectations almost midway through. I think it's in games where my pattern recognition actually throws me off a bit, where some bosses in games like Drakengard 3 or especially Undertale and Deltarune seem especially designed to do so, to more simply things like the dynamic difficulty in God Hand gives enemies new attacks and behaviors, to stuff like in Fromsoft games where I was pretty good at Sekiro and it's almost rhythm based swordplay only then to have Elden Ring where many enemies can delay attacking for seemingly any variable amount of time at random.

Another smaller aspect I forgot is whenever I get a song stuck in my head. I can have it go on for quite some time, and it's a bit annoying when it seems to get stuck in certain loops or ends up turning into another song with a similar pattern.

Patterns, rules, and systems are how I understand the world.
Everything is information. Information almost always has a use.
What trips me up is that I find myself looking for patterns in meaninglessness, counting trivial things like floor tiles or steps to the mailbox, because some part of my brain expects that information to have meaning and use.
But when I do get to use the information in some meaningful way, it’s the absolute best. Like if I’m helping someone move a couch up some stairs and I counted the steps already and I can tell the other person, “You have three steps to the top.”

Gah, I hadn't realised how common creating patterns was for me until the question got asked. I just got done with a conversation, during which I had somehow subconsciously scraped the side of the old wooden chair I was sitting on, identical mirrored patterns on both sides of the seat. I hope no one notices.
