Hi everyone,

I'm mid-20's and with an adolescent diagnosis of anxiety disorder and depression. Have been trying to treat that in various ways for over a decade unsuccessfully. I've always felt that it should have been a secondary diagnosis, but with selective mutism since I was a toddler, doctors were never able to go beyond the surface of the issues.

I would say that there are autistic traits throughout my entire family, although definitely on the mild end of the spectrum.

I am trying to decide if I should seek another diagnosis. I feel it would be helpful in approaching treatment. For example, meds and exposure therapy aren't much use if I go into situations socially unprepared and shutdown.

I look forward to meeting others like me.

Hey PB :P

I would say yes to seeking another diagnosis if that's what you feel is needed. That's what I'm doing. I have been diagnosed several things but am just now thinking about AS. You might still have depression and anxiety as a diagnosis but they may add a new one. Like if I get diagnosed as AS I know I still have depression and generalized anxiety on top of it, with a sprinkle of OCD. It's common to have these things alongside AS.

So go get it girl! You know what's best for you and knowing what your dealing with will DEFINITELY help you get the correct treatment!

Ah, Bonnibel, welcome! (Adventure Time fans will understand me. Hehe. :D)

Seeking out another potential diagnosis won't hurt if you're still struggling. I suppose I'm rather like you in that I, too, have dealt with depression since I was a teenager, but I only found out about my ASD a few years ago. I am also in my mid-twenties.

If you feel you need additional help, then by all means, do what you have to to improve your situation.

I love your profile pic. I have autism spectrum disorder and have also been diagnosed with anxiety and depression. I think they are apart of the package deal or there must be a correlation
