Hi. I have gotten a couple diagnoses, a couple different opinions. Basically I think I have aspergers and adhd, with some residual OCD that I mostly grew out of from childhood but still comes up now and then. It's very where difficult where I live to access mental health care and even then all they are allowed to do is prescribe from a limited list of meds. There is effectively a ban on diagnosing anxiety disorders. They also refuse to release medical records even though it was required to attend school. This is legal in Texas.
I'm considering paying out of pocket to see someone who specializes is aspergers and adhd so I can get documentation for school accommodations (increased testing time).
Anyway, about me... I love dogs, computers, science, hiking, fishing, gardening, studying, video games, architecture, woodworking, etc.

welcome.webp

Welcome! I also have trouble with them knowing wtfreak is wrong with me. I have a chromosome alteration and had dxs of autism and PDD but recently a rude autsim Dr laughed in face and said I don't have it. He wold not explain why I have such severe sensory processing disorder and the overlaps. He just told me to go to hell, basically and that I was just crazy. Very rude and left a scar. He, though, is a researcher who seems to want to kill off autism, so I should cosider the source.

Hello, Nemo! I am very sorry to hear that you are having so much difficulty accessing proper mental health care where you live. Unfortunately, I've also had trouble accessing proper mental health care due to living in a rural area in West Virginia. I eventually had to pay out of pocket to see a specialist, and was finally diagnosed as having Asperger's Syndrome, which has now been changed to High Functioning Autism. It was expensive, but I was able to make payments, and it was definitely worth it, in my opinion. I hope that you're able to get a correct diagnoses soon, so you can get documentation to receive the school accommodations that you need.

hi wtfme welcome to AC! you will get there at some point in your future if you feel its a big thing in your life that needs naming, perhaps right now you could compose your developmental history and current experiences-how you feel you relate to ASD,then when you get your appointment you will be ready for it.

I was kinda scared to post anything, but this place seems really welcoming and accepting. I'm glad this place exists, because I can't talk to anyone in my life about it. :)
