Perhaps as for you, this is all new and a bit daunting at first, but I've got so far.

I realized I am Aspergers in 2015 at the age of sixty six. I probably always knew I was different but could not fully understand it. My progress in life (work, relationships, parenting) was poor and I always felt bad, seldom good. Jenny, my partner from 2001, has been incredible from the start and since realizing my condition, we have made amazing progress. So good that I managed to write a book about me and us. Writing it helped us to understand me and identify what we've done that has helped us to live better.

I hope that by sharing experiences here we can all learn from and help each other.

p.s. Aargh! I've just looked at the sections below and worried, can someone explain them? Tags? Polls?

a tag will put your post in certain sections like autism spectrum discussion or religion or another section for instance! a poll is just to discover how many members would answer yes or no or maybe to whatever !
diagnosed at 45 still cant understand after 2.5 years

Thank you Streetwise, I can use the tags, not sure about polling, hopefully I won't need it!

Hopefully as we share messages we can understand each other.

Welcome John. It's always good to see another senior here. I self-identified (I try not to use medical terms like "diagnosed") in my late 60s and I'm still making discoveries about myself. Every little bit helps.

Hello John and welcome!

I am 68 and in the process of being diagnosed - I had my initial assessment by a community nurse this morning, and he is going to refer me to the team that deal with aspies after assessimg it is not mental illness.

I self diagnosed 3 years ago and thought that I would not get a GP to refer me but this new one has and I am very pleased.

It will be good to get it official and to know definitely why I had so many problems socialising all my life.

Thank you. I agree. I can be me, at peace with knowing I don't have to feel bad about being different as I now know why and how!

Thank you, yes, now we can enjoy being us.

Welcome. I just joined in February but enjoy the group. Great to have a group to discuss life as someone with Autism. Enjoy your time here.
