Welcome back! You won't recognize me as I am relatively new.

The kama point system (so far as I understand) is linked to the little icons under the bottom right of each post. This allows people to positively rate your posts and kind of comment without having to write something vacuous. I believe it may also be tied to the achievement system this site has for benchmarks such as "X number of people liked your posts", or, "You have commented on X posts." It's a bit frivolous, but adds an element of gamification and a sense of progress, I suppose.

I must humbly admit to feeling jealous of some peoples Karma to Message ratio. :oops:
