So today my mom informed me that l don't have anxiety, no- l am depressed. Just because you got a degree in graphic arts doesn't mean you can assess people medically. Omg. And l can't say diddle crappola because she is my mom. Yes- she is on the spectrum, and l have lost hope with this female who reminds me that she is my mother.

Just shoot me. Then l will no longer be depressed. :)

Assessing others is one thing. However when it comes to ourselves, there are different dynamics in play.

Not much different IMO than someone who is LBGTQ who knows or suspects who and what they are whether earlier or later in life. Without a medical profession having to confirm the obvious. Just as so many in this community have pondered the issue, and in time got that formal diagnosis, only to confirm what they already knew. With very few of them citing that their doctor came up with entirely different diagnosis.

Though in the case of one's parent, I can't help but wonder what a driving, pathological force it is for them with a "NOT MY CHILD!" mentality. In which even if you produce a written positive diagnosis of autism, your mother just may dismiss it anyways. A sentiment that I suspect that many parents (even those who are autistic) are reticent to admit even to their own child. Where it's easier just to rationalize that you aren't a doctor, therefore you don't know.

Where it may be difficult to determine whether it's love or ego that compels them to act in such a manner. Probably a little of both.
