Yes, I have already been referred and received confirmation of referral by post...and a paragraph on waiting lists and inferences that an assessment may take some time (rolls eyes)

Same for me, and I just couldn't wait another 12 months or more.

I'm full of praise for our NHS, but I read recently with regards to ASD in adults and the NHS that you get treatment and support based on how inconvenient your behaviour and suffering is to other people.

nah an emergency is when you're dead.
apart from that just don't bother ,don't ever think you'll see a psychologist or autism team after three months !it doesn't happen !the waiting time is between six months and two years .
in some parts of the UK there is no referral at all ,no autism diagnosis available ,probably what you have to do is find out where the nearest County is that does it and go there.

It would save the NHS millions in referrals, assessments, meds and therapy/care if those that needed help were dead.

I don't know whether it will help achieve a successful claim, but the DWP do use 'evidence' as part of any of their assessments for any benefit (I can't comment specifically on PIP as I don't know that much about it).

So, getting the private assessment done won't be the 'evidence'; a positive diagnosis and your report will be the 'evidence' they'll use to assist assess the claim (along with all the other assessment processes they apply).

The NAS website may provide more info for you about PIP.

The problem is NHS doctors are snobs and they think if you get a private diagnosis the therapist only agreed because you're paying for it ,so they only really agree with NHS therapists.

I'm not really sure what you mean?

I think you mean by getting a private assessment and diagnosis, wouldn't this mean your GP would have to refer you to the NHS for an assessment. Is that what you mean?

you have to wait a months for a diagnosis if it's the NHS I don't know if it works the same for autism diagnosis but try to find out if any hospitals in the UK have a short waiting list for autism diagnosis and then maybe you could be referred there I know in London you can see a neuro psychologist at the hospital but it depends if the doctor would refer you that I think I only got referred because I was not masking any traits what so ever ,if you're rocking and you can answer questions at the same time you look autistic !that was what I was doing in the GPs office.
I wouldn't of done that in 1 million years if I wasn't affected by drug interaction

Not have to but more likely. At my age there is not much chance.

You can't be denied a referral on the basis of age.

Apologies in advance if this is blunt, but a defeatist belief doesn't usually yield positive results.

I'm just going by what other oldies have said - extremely hard to get a referral. And what makes it worse is that I have made a huge effort to make good contact with my GP because I have cfs/ME as well and that is not a good diagnosis to have.

Just because other people said something doesn't make it fact. That's their experience, not yours.

I have multiple health issues, I'm not that much younger than you and I've been referred, so if you must use a benchmark as your reason to ask for a referral, use that example. At least it's positive.
