I am currently 16 mo sober from 10 yrs of heavy marijuana use

I was a functioning alcoholic for maybe 20 years. Long before I figured out I was on the spectrum, I always said “I drink to quiet the voices in my head”. There’s a non-stop chatter in my head, day and night. Alcohol turned it off for a few hours every evening. It was/is something I desperately needed. Finding a way to achieve the same result without mind-altering substances is my current project. It’s really stressful. I have recently discovered that alcohol and marijuana use/abuse is pretty common for high-functioning Autistics for the same reason.

Well done! I am a recovering drug addict and alcoholic with almost 6 months under my belt. Weed was the last thing to go. I hope to say 16 months sober, too, one day.

I understand. I’ve tried many times and failed. This is the first time in 20 years it is working for me. Thank you!
