Hello I am new

I just turned 26 and I was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder one month ago.
EDIT: by way of additional explanation - this autism diagnosis came as a complete shock. I wasn't really aware of the autism spectrum or what it entailed, I just never knew why I couldn't just be like other people. I had recently switched psychiatrists after making no progress with previous doctors and not understanding what I was doing wrong. Autism was picked up almost immediately by the new doctor.

Ah, I'm just a few months older than you. I was diagnosed two years ago. I was referred to the community mental health team for other reasons and they picked up on my eccentricities. Most of my life I've was under the watch of special educational needs at varying levels over time. But no one ever picked up on it. I feel like I've missed out on a fundamental start to life because of that. But it is what it is.

Welcome!
