Hi, I'm Izzy :)

I'm 24 and am currently pursuing a diagnosis for Aspergers Syndrome, on the advise of my old uni counsellor. To begin with I was very dubious when she suggested it, but upon doing research (months later) I was shocked by how much I could relate to the various "symptoms". It was a great relief to realise that there are other people out there similar to me, after years of feeling different from everyone, like I'd somehow missed some lesson as a child which taught everyone else how to be a "normal human".

I'm not sure if this revelation is well timed, as I'll be starting an MSc at a new uni in 2 weeks time, and it's probably not great to be worrying about getting a diagnosis whilst also dealing with the stress (terror) of starting at a new place with new people , but at least I'm feeling a little less pressure to exhaust myself by trying to fit in!

Anyway, I'm going to stop rambling now ;) Hope you're all doing well!

Welcome to AC, Izzy. Indeed, it's a relief to find that you're not alone over something so frustrating and mystifying. I think you'll likely find many things to relate to with us here.

Welcome aboard! Best wishes for your transition and diagnosis

Welcome :D if you ever fancy a chat please feel free to message sometime. Especially if anything is getting you down.

Welcome :)

The timing might be a little awkward, but it may be beneficial, should you need support. For some of our members, disclosing their AS has been beneficial to their studies, but this is a personal preference. I imagine you're still learning about AS then, so I'll add a few links to help out.

We've got an excellent resources page, for suggested books:
Resources | AspiesCentral.com

I like to recommend this book to our female members. As you may have noticed, men and women can both present different traits: Aspergirls: Empowering Females With Asperger Syndrome | AspiesCentral.com

Just a word of advice when seeking a diagnoses; as there are few specialists who are trained to recognise AS in women, be sure to ask if they are, when making the appointment. This can save you a lot of stress, and a lot of money!

Thankyou, I'll be sure to check out that book, it was difficult finding info of women with aspergers when I was doing research.
Fortunately my county has a dedicated AS centre which does adult diagnosis and provides support, so I know I'll be talking to people who know what they're doing :D

Hi and welcome to our community. Good luck with diagnosis and uni, and remember to come here for support and fun, whichever you need most :)
