Hard work

What are your opinions on hard work? What most people see as hard work and struggle to persuade themselves to do I never understand I.e. procrastination. To me, something can be exasperating but I just do it because there is nothing stopping me physically. I think this emotional detachment is very useful and why many aspies can excel in a career or area of interest. Do you agree? Do you find this?

An example of this is if I'm doing a maths problem like a couple of years ago when I did Michael spivaks calculus book, which is notorious for being rigorous, and a problem can get hard and make you tired but there is nothing physically stopping you from working on it for a long time so I can just detach myself from the emotions and persist.

I don't feel like I'm emotionally detached from hard work, but the effort is always worth it in the end. I feel much worse when I find excuses to only do easy things than when I push through and complete tasks that take a lot of work or a long time. Both writing and math tend to be very rewarding things when you attain a level of skill, though, which probably makes them easier in a sense than cleaning a kitchen or returning a bunch of phone calls. :P

I thought id mention it's 3AM here in London and i am still working on a mysql database plugin that I've been coding since 6AM yesterday. Maybe this hard work is in reality just overruling and uncontrollable enthusiasm.

I'm not quite sure what one would refer to as "hard work". If it involves inherently being meticulous and methodical about something, (more likely anything) in my own case I attribute it to OCD if not directly attributed to a specific work ethic. There are also things I enjoy doing that can be terribly complex at times...that could be considered a whole different animal as well.

Just this evening I found myself somewhat amused by how I prepare food....cut vegetables....just making an omelet. Hard work? No...but maybe there's madness in having intricate methodologies in benign things. At least I can laugh at myself on some levels.

Of course my OCD, unlike my AS is generally not something so easily shared or observed by others. At times I suppose at very close range I might unintentionally scare, intimidate or aggravate people...which makes me a little sad at times.

The idea of 'hard work' makes me think of Salvador Dali's
response to an art patron who asked if it were hard to paint a picture.

Answer:

“No, it’s either easy or impossible.”
