Lets get some basic facts out of the way.
I am in my mid 40s but officially diagnosed in my early 30s but dismissed the diagnosis of being high functioning aspergers at the time. I also was repeatedly tested in grade school to see if I had a learning disability and always did well on the academic portion, especially math. I know my IQ testing was extremely high, 179, after seeing the records in a box at my parents house. The only hint of a diagnosis in those old records was a mention of a "non-social disorder."

It was only recently after seeing Big Bang Theory and reading an article where they mention that the main character has several Aspergers behavoirs that I even considered seeing a specialist again who confirmed the prior diagnosis. My AQ was 44 when they did the preliminary check out. It needs noted that many people commented to me that Sheldon in Big Bang was a lot like me in how he acted before I took time to watch the show.

Due to life circumstances, mainly no money at all, I only recently had the means to finish college and have a B.S in Math and Electronics Enginnering Technology and am nearly finished with M.S. in Statistics. If I can afford to not work full time, I want to pursue a PHd in a related field.

I never had friends as a child, always wound up doing things alone. To this day, I have only a couple of people in my life that I can relate to at any kind of emotional level. It seems that over the years I have developed some superficial interaction skills which allow more normal everyday dealings with people.

I am married which is quite fortunate but difficult as she often wants more emotional connection than I can exhibit. I have a job in a technical field, but often have difficulty dealing wih others.

As a final note: I do find that communicating through the internet is easier than in person.

Hello and welcome. We seem to have a lot in common. I am in my mid 40's, I'm a computer tech now but grew up on electronics (component level), very high IQ but no social skills. There are a very few people who understand me and all of my friends are online. Again, welcome :)

Hi Mr. DISCO D.
I have issues somewhat different than your but the one similar is the spouse emotional connection.
How are you handling that? It's not something that I and maybe you can brush off too often without trouble starting up.
The Sheldon comment comes up every time we watch the show. Luckily it is a comedy and script moves fast or there would be pronounced uncomfortable silence in the air.
Thd other traits:
I got stuck in the back of the line for brains when God was constructing me, but sure got to be first in line in the non-social behavior que.
Money, aka Luck, much better line que.
Any comments helpful and I'lltry as well.
