I have 19 year old son who has Aspergers, when he was in Grammar school hi mom(ex wife) recommended to leave him in grammar school an additional year cause she feared that he was not ready and that High school would be too much for him to deal with, I thought it was really stupid but I respected her decisions and went along with it.

This was 5 years ago and this year is my son’s final year of high school, high school and she’s informing me that the he will walk down but he’s to show back up in school for another 3 years.

Although I know my son has some academic limitations and lack social skills I don’t see this being a productive thig, I asked him mom to push him to go to a trade school, learn a skill no matter how long it takes, I don’t believe the program the school is offering any advancement and growth nor will encourage him to be more independent.

Can you please advise I really don’t want to hinder his growth and I feel by keeping him there will give him a sense of temporary buffer and sense of security by not getting on with his life?

Oh man, that is a hard decision to make. Have you talked to your son about what he wants? I'm not 100% familiar with American school life, but I'm guessing trade school is education for like carpenter or cook? Maybe one of them aligns with something that interests him?
