I'm in a theater group, and over the last couple days we finally performed a play (Anne of Green Gables— incredibly boring, but my grandma liked it) we'd been working on for months. It went really well and this winter, we're putting on A Christmas Carol, in which I will likely play the lead role. What's more, is that we're composing an original soundtrack for it (instrumental stuff), and I get to help compose it! I want to compose and perform music for a living someday, so this is very exciting.
A (theater) friend's dad is also working on it, and he has a degree in music composition, so I'll be working with someone who knows what he's doing.
My only concern is that even with several months to do it, I'll overcomplicate things to the point that it's impossible to get anything done.

TL;DR: I want to pursue a career as a musician and composer, and I get to help compose an original soundtrack for a play.
 
It's great to read this, you are pursuing your passions. Thanks for sharing this important step, and you can use it in your resume. Make sure to take pics, and video.
 
I think your concern comes from wanting to see your creative vision fully realized, but also acknowledging that an intense passion can get in the way of progress. I'd say to just not get too ahead of yourself, because that certainly can lead to self-sabotage. You should also make sure to establish some sort of communication with your friend's father. The most difficult aspect to production is effectively communicating your ideas to who you work with.

Regardless, it is truly wonderful that you've been given such an opportunity! It will absolutely help you to get some experience with musical composition.

Don't let the nay sayers hold you back. Chase your dreams.

Lately I've been a big fan of an autistic actor and musician that has been very successful but life wasn't easy for him in the beginning. He also composes and writes music for stage plays as well as acting in them.

@Goobz Exactly. I have known myself to set goals so high I can't even start towards them, it's a problem that I want to avoid here.

@Outdated Ah, I know Tim Minchin! Honestly I find him annoying and too vulgar for my tastes more often than not, but he's pretty funny and wicked good at the piano. I didn't know he was autistic, but honestly it's not surprising.

As a comedian, I agree with you about a lot of that. As a serious actor, musician and composer he's an entirely different kettle of fish. You should check out the wiki page below and go through some of his movie and stage performances. He was also made a Member of the Order of Australia, mostly for his services to the community. If he was in Britain the equivalent would be being knighted.
