Ganging Up And Odd Reactions

Well since the earth's population has more than doubled since 1950, I'm sure the population of Aspies has increased. The real question is, how does the ratio of Aspie-NT births change from 1950-2012.

I don't know Deno but I meant to say I do not think the ratio of aspies to NTs has changed. I believe it is genetic and environmental determinants of ASD are not significant.

Ah I see, apologies. I feel as though one must be significant because those are the two things that make up our being in my opinion. Genetics simply being our genetic code, and Environment being our surroundings and experiences.

At this point the research is not clear. You are right that genetics and environment are always both involved but the question with autism is whether it is primarily a genetic condition or whether some environmental factor present in the womb is an important factor. High testosterone levels in the womb have been suggested. it is also known that some drugs if taken during pregnancy can cause autistic behaviors. I do not find the evidence compelling that environmental causes are important determinants of most ASD. However, the jury is still out.

Personally i believe our brains are wired differently primarily because of the genetics but this is a speculative opinion.

You'd expect the early nineties to be the highest indicator of aspergers. Hans Asperger's work had only recently been translated and psychologists were over-diagnosing. There were definite instances of over diagnosis back then as this was basically new terrain.
However, so far as I'm aware, now, with more accurate diagnosing, aspergers is apparently increasing. It's very high in parts of California. The fact it appears to be increasing isn't what we might call a big deal. My own view is diversity is just a part of biology and people differ with respect to hair colour, eyes, cheeks so not illogical to assume the same for neuro-patterns.
Of course, I may be wrong and I suppose you could say diagnosis is more effective at detection but still you'd imagine diagnosis to peak in the late eighties, not now.

I'm aspie but I know I'm far from perfect. I do things or say things that sometimes make me feel awkward about myself, knowing I've done something wrong. I guess I have definitely hurt peoples' feelings on occasions and have definitely felt disappointed in myself for being cold or possibly even possibly a bit cruel (although not by intention). It's an issue I think I need to sort out. What happens is I think the years of social rejection and misunderstanding by others made me adapt by being colder or even myself capable of rejection towards those who get close. I think if you lack a stable, familiar background, you can grow into adulthood not really knowing how to handle certain situations and, in my case, I can sometimes behave in ways I'm not too proud of. So, aspies aren't saints but maybe we do aspire to be better people and it does bother our conscience when we do the wrong thing. If that makes any sense.

I suppose there are since there is a lot of diversity in the aspie community. Also, some aspies have other co-morbid diagnoses that may make them more cruel. My experience has been that these are very rare. I have not seen this on this forum Try not to be too sensitive to them and remember it is their problem not yours.

I think it's because we don't really follow trends or believe the hype. We base our opinions more on factual evidence and can see through a lot of ******** that people throw around on forums. Then...We aren't afraid to state our opinions without wrapping it in cotton wool.

People hate being wrong or feel like they've been made a fool of so they attack and try and group together with like minded chip on shoulder arse holes.

This tends to happen a lot on fitness forums when the steroid fuelled egotistical brick heads throw around opinions or deny they are on steroids etc and you literally get war and somehow they seem to manage to turn it round till everyone is mocking you. People hate difference and they are even more stunned when you keep responding with facts and research based opinions without being aggressive or using bad language.
