You know how it's like your brain pulls the emergency brake handle on your train of thought randomly during a conversation? Or maybe when it doesn't even let it leave the station when you want to start one or someone asks you a question etc? How badly do you suffer from it? Are there any tips for resolving it?

It happens to me all the time, although once it happens I always (try to) end the conversation (to the confusion of others). It's why I prefer chatting online (even instant messaging) better, since people are a lot more lenient towards delayed responses... it rarely happens to me online though.

I used to be like that all the time. People really don't understand.

Whoever said that it is better to remain silent and appear a fool than to speak and remove all doubt... obviously hasn't regularly remained silent and appeared a fool. Most people talk gibberish. As long as you get over the idea that you need to have something witty/appropriate/intelligent to say in every situation, you can start to get over the "hurdle".

Yeah I tend to delay responses. In lessons at college if the teacher asks me something, I say nothing for a few seconds even though I know the answer, it's all "ums and ahs" then I give the response. It's very annoying.

Don't really think I have this problem tbh. Very rarely. If I've done something extremely stupid(and I mean extremely stupid) I might be speechless but even then I can still function on some level verbally.
