Forgetting to eat or drink

Does anyone else frequently forget to eat or drink? I'm not even sure 'forget' is the right now. I often don't have anything to drink until my throat is so parched that I begin to cough. It would not be even remotely unusual for me to go through an entire day and only have 2 partial cups of coffee and a partial glass of water. It just doesn't occur to me to drink...

On the eating front, I do not have a good sense of when to eat (until I am REALLY hungry) or worse, when to stop eating. Thank God for clocks, because it helps if I can plan to begin cooking dinner at a specific time of the day.

I am no expert on this. But I know that this kinda disconnection isn't entirely uncommon with us ASD folk. It can vary of course.

Though I do feel like it can be also focus on other things we deem important that takes most of our attention. This kinda situation will happen no matter if you are NT or ND.

But in both regards, I do agree that keeping a time schedule to garentee you eat will definitely help. Especially if you are unable to pick up your body's hunger immediately.

As far as drinking water. I'd reccomend setting hydration reminders at a constant frequency. Maybe every hour or every few hours. This is imperative during hot and humid periods in the summer.

I used to forget to eat and drink until my body imposed it's will on me and madel me do so.
More recently a chronic medical issue has made me drink water every hour or two. I hate plain water so I have flavors to squirt into my water

The reason I posted this is because I got a new smartwatch and set the hydration alarms. It reminds me every 30 minutes to drink - and I love it!

@CurlyGirl, I don’t have good interoception w.r.t. “feeling thirsty”. In hot weather I would realise I should have had something to drink when my hearing started to go funny, due to the mucus in my eustachian tubes becoming too viscous. I, too, now have hydration alarms on my iPhone. Of course, when I am playing Go I forget everything else, including eating and drinking. The number of cups of tea that have gone cold during Go games…

Yes. I have forgotten to eat or drink. I have forgotten if I have used the bathroom or if I need to use the bathroom. I have sat in cold rooms with the window open for hours not realizing how cold I was.

Yes, definitely. If my mind and body are busy, and I am in "the zone", then I'm not thinking about food and water. On the other hand, if my mind and body are NOT busy, and I am bored, then I tend to overeat.

I'd rather stay busy and miss a meal or two than be bored...but that's me.

I seemed to have missed out learning how to be bored. There's always too much to do.
I don't know about you, but my version of "being bored" is my mind thinking about things that I would like to do, but due to a lack of time or money, I am not able to do it...OR...I have exhausted all the available knowledge on a topic...videos, articles, AI questions, etc. and I want to know more, but don't have access to it. It results in more a form of depression and I will typically take a nap and waste a few hours. I don't like it at all.

I try to keep about 3-4 special interests at any given time just to keep my mind and body occupied.

The friggin problems with the interoception thing..Has dogged me a big part of my life.
And think it maybe a Big part of my health issues,Got to be that I hated interruptions so much Drinking and eating became a nusciance, besides not being able to moderate my stress levels..Tried many things, including meditation . Did not expect to have to deal with health issues later in life so much. beCause of aspie issues. But like most other people always took health for granted
