First few days of University research was awesome!

so I had experienced my first round of research last week that It’s was such an awesome experience! Due to Univeristy policy I am not allowed to post any pics of anything related to research but I can tell about it.

The first night we were out from 11:00am-2:00am. We laid out two gill 100 meter gill nets, one in the middle of the bay and one near the salt marshes. We did not get any bull sharks during the duration of the day but caught 5 nice butterfly sting rays biggest one being 36 inches; everyone of them were female and pregnant.

The second night however around 10:30 we caught a 5ft bull shark in the net and were able to tag it. It was kind of struggle to get him into the boat though. The way the tagging process works is a one inch cut was made of the side of its belly and a small aucoustic tag the length of two dimes was placed inside the belly and the wound was stitched up.
That was my first time ever catching a bull shark and since then my adrenaline had been pumped.

As a bonus during the two night I got to do some fishing on rod and reel to get some shark bait to put on our surf rods so that was fun.

What a wonderful experience this, indeed, must have been. So pleased for you! It sounds like University is going great! I wish you many more, awesome experiences to come... : )
