Fiber Intake

So my doctor had told me a while back that I needed to increase my fiber intake because it could be critically low right now, but I still have time to fix it. I decided to give it a try today. I decided to add one Fiber One chocolate bar as a snack every day starting today. I'm on day one, and I feel absolutely terrible! I barely could get through the 9 hours of work I was gonna do today, and now I'm home and I can't go anywhere because my stomach is hurting too much :( This can't be because I was eating too little fiber, is it?

I counted how much fiber I normally eat a day and I was surprised to find it ranged anywhere from 6-9 grams. One of the bars is 9 grams. So I increased my take to about 15-18 today.

It might be. Try starting out with half a bar every day for a couple of weeks then go up to a whole bar. Sometimes it takes awhile to adjust to more fiber in the diet, especially if you have been taking in very little to begin with.

Thanks for the insight. Because I've been feeling like I've choked on a medium-sized golf ball for about 4 hours now, but I'm hungry. Maybe I should try eating something with no fiber to end the day. That would put me at... I think 12?

This is tougher than I thought.

Drink a bottle of water with each thing you eat especially fiber; I have to eat a good bit of it, and I feel sick if I don't have water to move it along.

There are these powders you can buy that you mix with water and then quickly drink and they expand in your stomach a little and help clean the pipes, Metamucil I think is one, or there is another fiber powder someone I know uses and it is simply sprinkled over your cereal in the morning or stirred into your coffee/ teas ETC. if that helps at all ; ]

As myself, to maintain a healthy fiber intake I try to have at least one piece of fruit a day if not two, and drink more than 1 liter of water by itself, and with the water content of my other beverages that usually more than equals the supposed recommended water intake of 8 glasses a day that helps regulate your bowel functions.
Try having grain bread as toast maybe too ; ]
