Exciting new research project

Dear all,

First of all let me thank you for welcoming me to your online community, it is great to see so much going on and so many interesting discussions.

Before I go on, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Katerina Kantartzis and I work at Birmingham City University (you can look me up if you like- or email me [email protected]). I have a keen interest in autism and have worked on a few research projects in this area. The current project I am going to tell you about is relating to how individuals with autism might relate differently to themselves but also to others. There is an abundance of research in this area, but I am still not convinced we have the full picture.

My contact details and my colleagues are available on the link below, so please do not hesitate to email us with questions, queries, or research ideas! We believe very strongly that you as individuals are the most important part of research and your ideas and opinions are very important to us.

So here is the link for the study, where you will find more information.

Our research has been given full ethical approval from the BCU ethics committee

Exploring forms of self- and other-perceptions

Just submitted my form. To elaborate further on one string of questions in particular: It's always been my dream to make animated features and while I have made some shorts which have been generally well received by the few people who've seen them, I sometimes feel like I ought to have made more progress by now and thoughts begin to creep into my head that I'll never be able to get anywhere.

When I feel that way, I remind myself that Don Bluth was in his forties when he made The Secret Of NIMH and look at all he accomplished afterwards. I try to keep telling myself that it's never too late as long as I never give up and I frequently rewatch some of my favorite animated films to remind myself what I'm working towards.

There is an error on the 50% completed page (two questions seem to have the second part of the sentence as the first part and irrelevant things as the second part in the questions that all have the same first part of the sentence). Also, I don't know what it means to 'almost always' sometimes do something. Always doing something 'a bit' seems clearer but I doubt whether my interpretation is the correct one, i.e. is it really doing something a little bit all the time or is the intended meaning actually a matter of degree?

Are you examining the relationship between lack of ToM/social reciprocity and lack of ability to use perspective to modulate negative thinking and depression? Because that is kinda cool. (I realize you can't actually answer that, just amusing myself by speculating. Hope that's allowed.)

I tried to complete the form, but in honesty and to be honest, I found I could not answer with completely honesty because quite simply, I never think about some of what was being asked; I just do it.

I guess my thing is that when asked about me and what makes me tick, I get stuck!

Yeah, I found myself marking never on a bunch of stuff that implied I had some purpose in acting/thinking a certain way. If I have such a purpose, it's certainly not conscious!

Just submitted my form. Agree with royinpink about that question. Also, I noticed that if I reversed the statements on page ~3, I'd change my answers completely, so the cause-effect thing...I hope those questions are intended to be read chronologically as well as literally, because that's how I read them. And sometimes the questions towards the end of the survey assume things that aren't stated, which bothered me a lot. Again, I would change some of those answers based on my assumptions.

I'd love to see results posted on this thread, when you have them...chart, crosstabs, whatever's easy for summaries.

I came,I saw,I answered to the best of my ability.
I would also like to see the outcome of your research.
