Don't Be Shy To Introduce Yourself

Welcome D J and KittKatt ..loved the piks, Autism = extra neural wiring in Brain , Wires that wire together fire together( old adage in neurology) repeated firing of same neural circuits reinforce those neural pathways , Autism not understood in youth breeds disillusionment = depression,etc. (You make the connections .) circumstances can reinforce those connections . Change circumstances ,build new connections . Make your own deductions from there.

Hi,

My name is Scott. I am 55 I’ve known for a while but haven’t got the tests: being a teacher and having colleagues and experts telling you that you are a lot like the kids in the process of diagnosis made it hard to ignore. Masking less because of some understanding peers is good. Having my trans girl teen get the double diagnosis of autism and ADHD was ‘comforting’ too? Telling people about my needs weirds them out. I want to say neurotypicals here but my daughter gets on my case for othering people the way I always have been.
Anyway, I can get by in the world enough to have a family and a few friends. The family finds me hard sometimes but I am working on it. My friends are far away so they don’t get tired.

I was wondering about something: I need scripts sometimes to help me figure out the best way forward with people. How about you? Is there a place on this forum where we can share scripts that work? That is only if that makes sense to folks anyway…

As a teacher I want to write them for the autistic kiddo I have in class now. Worthy? If so is anyone willing to give me feedback. I am probably asking too much here. Any moderators who could help or is there a referral I could get?

The best I have seen for social support in ASD-1 is PEERS (Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills), developed at UCLA.

I was recently diagnosed as autistic and thought I’d try putting myself out there a bit more. I struggle making friends irl, so I’m hoping this might be a bit easier.
I’m really into Nintendo mainly Zelda, Donkey Kong and Pokémon. Always up for chatting about favourite games.🙂
