Does anyone know the word with the -philia ending that means "a love for looking into warmly lit windows at night"? A teacher taught it to me many years ago, but I forgot it, and I really, really want to know this word. It begins with the letter n.

Thank you so much! This does help. It's not the exact word (I remember that the exact word was very specific to nighttime and its contrast with the warm, yellow light from indoors). This word brings me one step closer, plus it is a great word, so thank you!

Edit to add: maybe it is the right word. I think it is. I learned it and forgot it over a decade ago, lol. Plus scotophilia means the same as nyctoohilia, which may be where I am getting the letter n.

I had no curtains on any of my windows for two and a half years. My house is on a corner. I always thought that if someone saw something they didn't like they shouldn't be looking, and if they saw something they did like, I'm glad I entertained them.

When my partner moved in, she insisted on getting curtains and drapes.

It's an intriguing 'philia' or 'phille' (well you know what I mean) but weird, not because of what it involves, but that it's something out of the norm because I'm struggling to see how this differs from presumably glancing over like any person would when they notice light amid the surrounding darkness....unless we're talking about going right up out of your way to the house and literally within 1mtr starring in??

It's about simply liking the warm yellow colors against the dark night, like it's aesthetically pleasing. It's not about staring into people's windows. It's not about looking at people. It's not about people. It's about the warmly lit light that comes from windows at night. I already said all of this. I think I maybe was right in that you were possibly making fun of me. For example, anyone can listen to Beethoven. But, not everyone will enjoy it. Not everyone will feel like it is a pleasurable experience to listen to his works.

And yes, I do like the color of warmly lit windows at night. I don't stare into people's homes, I just notice that my head turns to the pleasurable lights as I'm walking past. I don't like having to explain this because explaining this was never the point if my post. I just wanted to find out the name of a word. That was all.

Sorry, maybe I hadn't read all the messages in this post then, nah there was still no disrespect intended (the opposite if anything) because what I was getting at is that it sounds like it's going to be something super weird but when you describe it, it actually seems like nothing too out of the ordinary, even from an NT perspective.
