Does anyone here not get offended when someone says you're sick because you're autistic?

I used to be offended when I saw something like that, but not so much anymore. I still don't agree with it, but I don't let it trigger me like I used to.

I think it would depend on who said it to me. If it's someone I hold in high esteem I would feel hurt. If it's someone whose opinion I don't value anyway, I might get annoyed at their ignorance, but would most likely shrug it off.

People can't normally tell I'm on the spectrum, so I haven't had to deal with people commenting on my autism much.

I've been called that and a LOT worse, it used to seriously upset me, and still does, just not to the extent it used to.

I've had to contend with idiot Daily Mail readers who think all disabled people are work shy slaves to the benefit system, these people seriously need to GTFO, STFU and generally go over there and shove a rolled up copy of the Daily Fail up their arse.

Apologies to the Mods for the swearing, but this kind of thing seriously gets me.

Yeah. I have had a person online labelling me as a retard, and calling me a sh*tty amateur actor. I wish Internet providers did more about stopping the abuse. When you send emails to describe what you're being put through, and emphasising the seriousness of it all, they don't reply, or if they do, they say to contact the authorities, when the person you're being harassed by could be thousands of miles from you, geographically. Why have an 'abuse department' then?

Someone once said that I have a 'disease' and I object to that - it's wrong, Asperger's isn't a disease and I'm not sick!

I've not had the term sick used, but I have had folks say, "I didn't know you were retarded." As I've said elsewhere, my response to them was, "I didn't know you were."
OMG you are so polite. I would have said much, much worse.............

Yeah, same here. Well, sort of. I'd do that, but just WAY more sarcastic.

If someone says something to me like "Geez, I guess that means you're retarded or something", my response would come out something like this:

"Ah, I have to stop you there. I notice that you seem to have stuck the wrong word into that sentence. I believe you meant 'utterly amazing'. No no, it's quite all right, we all make silly mental mistakes sometimes. Here, have a dollar, maybe that'll make your day a bit better. *throws random coins at feet* I have to go now, I have various places to be amazing at today, you see. Later!"

And then a dramatic bow and I walk off.

Yes I am actually this freaking sarcastic IRL. Even moreso if I've had my sanity drink for the day (some might call it "caffiene").

Nobody has ever said I'm sick because of being autistic, but my reaction would be like Bolletje's -- it would depend on the person saying it.
