Do you believe in IQ?

Did his son make the same mistakes?

Yes and no. But he ultimately chose a better direction to go in life and at a much earlier age. Though unlike my brother he was offered a slot in a "gifted program" by Johns Hopkins University that he turned down. Too bad...he had some real potential we could see in him. He works in finance, though never went beyond a high school diploma.

Isn't that a medical school?
I was approached by Washington University (for med school). I declined because I get grossed out at the thought of cutting somebody; let alone cutting them on purpose...!

IQ tests are pretty pointless as knowing doesn't change anything unless you're truly a hidden genius in one domain or are twice-exceptional

>@Crossbreed What you have described is usually picked up by nonverbal tests (like the Ravens & the TONI) & sub-tests (like the Block Test)...

Isn't it kind of awkward to ask the psychologist for a multitude of tests unless you have an intellectual disability?

The WAIS covers all the bases. If the school psychologist does not have the WAIS, they know to try both kinds of tests when they suspect autism. The non-verbal test is redundant if the student shows no signs of ASD1.

Could not believe Richard Said 60% have IQ of 85 my stats show 15% put on control limits 90 as upper control
yes bit of a stretch to get point across.

"Johns Hopkins enrolls more than 30,000 full- and part-time students across nine academic divisions. Our faculty and students study, teach, and learn in-person and remotely across more than 400 programs in the health professions, arts and music, the humanities, the social and natural sciences, engineering, international studies, education, and business."

Technically IQ is the average of 2 parents -2 to -3 toward average if you are high.
And +2 or +3 if you are below average.

You don't have to be a genius to make it good. You just have to be good at what you do. One of my friends is a plumber. Nicest guy you ever meet to a fault. He looks like a drug dealer from Mexico. He made a very successful plumbing business but has no retirement money sense. But he knows to ask me questions because he knows I know a lot of things. He is smart enough to be a good plumber ~110+ and wise enough to ask someone who is smarter than he is. He is also good looking which helps.

But if you are a 95 IQ you are screwed. I have known enough people below average IQ and even average IQ that is living paycheck to paycheck or below that for those lower than 100.

One friend is below 100 and she does cooking. She is ok at it, doesn't eat right and is unhealthy but she worked just enough to pay the bills. Now in this economy she is screwed relying on government help. I feel bad for her. There is nothing I can do to help her get out of her hole without sacrificing myself. She also lives far away now. Her husband is also a friend and he has mental illness. He is smart but the illness cripples him.

I have some friend who are smart ~120ish IQ and healthy. They succeeded in life. They are in good shape, they have no mental disorders. They married a similar spouse. Their kids are the same way. When hear them say basically "I did it all myself why can't these lazy people just....." I want to punch them in the face.

I tell them.....
Imagine if we took 1/3rd of your dopamine away.
Imagine if your IQ was just 25 points lower.
Imagine if you had severe anxiety.

They can't argue what I tell them and for a brief moment they understand. Then they go back to their work and people like them and everything I taught them gets tossed out the window.

I feel super fortunate to gotten the lucky roll of the D&D stats in my life. I try to give time to those less fortunate. The chance all these numbers went right for me is astonishing. Well it's likely I have a reading decoding disorder I passed to my son but my high IQ compensates.

Seeing what my spouse and kid go through with their mental issues and how a simple pill can change how they are while it lasts makes me appreciate the little things.

Now being below average IQ and mental illness? There is no way out without a lot of help.

All I know regressing to the mean is not happening in my family. Think it started with my grand parents. One of the puzzles I been working on for years.

Is it possible to just book an appointment and ask for an IQ test? I think it might be obnoxious without a pretext so I'll just say I'm afraid of having an intellectual disability and get screened for ASD at the same time. Booking an appointment just to get an IQ test seems kinda selfish, though I am worried that something's wrong with me. Doctors seem to hate people who self-diagnose though... Also I don't know if I want an actual ASD diagnosis cuz insurance companies are hell and there aren't accommodations for ASD here anyway

There are two ways to get an affordable IQ test (in America),...
  1. from a school psychologist, while in school; or
  2. when ordered by a doctor, on insurance.
#1 is free.
#2 commonly happens in an ASD assessment.
