My name here is MulyMury and I am a self diagnosed 30yo, high functioning. Last year, I believe I had experienced a form of burnout from a medical office job. I am now cleaning houses while I heal and listen to audiobooks. I am working on learning more about autism/add, unmasking, and processing childhood trauma. I have a special interest for poetry, philosophy and psychology and I'm working on remembering the rest.. In the meantime, I am looking to expand my circle to include a new community of people as start figuring this out. One of my go-to questions at the end of the day, is asking my partner if he's learned anything new. So what would everyone like to share here? Has anyone learned anything interesting that they'd like to share with the class?

hi and welcome 👋

I learned a lot about various methods of creating eyes for ragdolls, page 7 of the bach-busoni Chaconne and all about differential dianoses in suspected cases of bipolar disorder (currently working my way through a psychiatry text book). Not sure any of this newly acquired learning is of any use to anyone 😀

Hi, @MulyMury!

Yesterday I learned that the Sami people of Finland use spray paint on their reindeer herds to identify who owns the reindeer. I saw it on a YouTube show about New Scandinavian Cooking. The family in the show used blue spray paint on their deer. That's a lot kinder than branding livestock in the US with a red-hot poker!

Welcome.

Today I learned the treaty to end the Six Days War was officially written in both English and French. The Israelis preferred the English version and the Arab states preferred the French version. The reason has to do with the grammar.

An interesting philosophy. As for myself, if I don't come across something new to learn every day, I go looking for something. This is not a discipline thing, more of a compulsion.

Now I get why the graphics program "Krita" does not offer a printing feature. Probably the only application I have run into where this common feature is absent.

Yet this explanation makes sense:

"Krita does not have a printing feature because it was removed in recent versions due to functionality issues and the program's primary focus on digital artwork rather than printing capabilities. Developers decided that dedicated printing software would produce better results than Krita's limited printing options."

Today i learned:

Imam Sadiq (A.S.)‏

Three things comprise the noble characteristics of this world and the hereafter:

1. pardoning one who wronged you,
2. reconciling with one who has cut ties with you,
3. and being clement with one who has behaved rashly with you.

al-Kafi, vol. 2, pg. 107
1. i forgive you
2. let's reconcile!
3. this one needs work...

Today, I realized that we always hear about child abuse, but almost never about the antidotes that help kids have mild reactions and quick recovery from problems that would really set others back. Punishment followed by forgiveness, within a field of unconditional love is not traumatizing. I never dared to get into trouble and learn from it lest the first punishment be abandonment.

Imam Ali (as) said:

إِنَّمَا قَلْبُ الْحَدَثِ كَالْأَرْضِ الْخَالِيَةِ مَا أُلْقِيَ فِيهَا مِنْ شَيْءٍ قَبِلَتْهُ فَبَادَرْتُكَ بِالْأَدَبِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَقْسُوَ قَلْبُكَ وَ يَشْتَغِلَ لُبُّكَ
[To his son, Imam Hasan] The heart of a youth resembles an empty land; it receives all that is thrown into it. This is why I have started to teach you good manners before your heart is hardened and your soul is sidetracked.

I never dared to get into trouble and learn from it lest the first punishment be abandonment.
I'm whitebelt Karateka for many reasons, including i feared "the 7th fall".

The 7th fall may be a tool Sensei has regardless of the opinion of Authorities. ...
