Hi selectivedetective

welcome to af.webp

Hi SelectiveDetective - I really like your explanation of the situation you are facing. It exudes so much honesty. I am also self-diagnosed Aspergers and I'm old enough to remember when Kennedy was shot. I'm learning a lot on this forum, and I share a few methods and approaches to some issues I have faced through my life. This is a good place for sharing and learning. Welcome.

Welcome!

There are barriers to getting an official diagnosis at least here in the USA. Most insurances will not pay for cognitive neuro-psych testing as of last October unless it is "medically necessary."

So moving away from the medical model, if you identify as aspie or autie, so be it.

I was dx'd as [classic] autistic at the age of three. I didn't speak until I was almost five and then headed right into full sentences.

The paperwork, I haven't seen it and doubt that it exists anymore. The recommendation at the time was to put me in an institution. That was unacceptable to one parent so I was enrolled in a small private school instead.

I continued to have problems making friends and some other stuff of course.

I was recently informed that I have ADHD too but declined the meds for it. I am functioning and I found the promise of "great things will happen in your life" to be rather disconcerting.

Anyways, nice to meet you.
