Christian Halloween supportive entry Bible

I must admit as a Christian I was struggling and floundering a bit this year with this. I don't personally really celebrate Halloween/Guy Fawke's day much at all but everyone is free to do what they want. In past years I might do something token like watch a bit of a scrary movie and that was about it usally. As time went on and I read more you learn that some people see it as offensive and you can flounder and become unsure of what to do. Now there is no need for me ever to go on a Google hunt or sit there in doubt. The photos can be clicked on and enlarged.

I attended church today which was taken by an ordianed Anglican rector in an Anglican church and it was useful for me that one of the sermons was about Halloween. May be this can help you make your mind up what to do now or for furture if you are struggling over this as well. The rector explained how pumpkins acted as beacons that welcomed people into the feast.

The reading came from isaiah 25: 6-9

"On this mountain the Lord Almighty will prepare
a feast of rich food for all peoples,
a banquet of aged wine—
the best of meats and the finest of wines.
On this mountain he will destroy
the shroud that enfolds all peoples,
the sheet that covers all nations;
he will swallow up death forever.
The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces;
he will remove his people’s disgrace from all the earth.
The Lord has spoken.
In that day they will say,
“Surely this is our God;
we trusted in him, and he saved us.
This is the Lord, we trusted in him; let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation.”

I'm Catholic so for me it's All hallows Eve still, an archaic name basically saying that the next day is November 1st, All Saints.

Hallowe'en has its ghostly associations from a mix of European folk religions and paganism, as well as the Catholic stuff, and to be honest I think it's all pretty neat. We, by being human, are essentially pagans by default. The folks offended by Halloween celebrations are probably still on that "satanic panic" stuff from the eighties.

I didn't see much celebrating this year, sadly, only one proper jack-o'-lantern with a candle and the trick-or-treating only happened in the rich neighborhoods. Would love to throw a massive Halloween party one day which would be a bit of a throwback to the classic ghost story telling, apple bobbing, staying up too late, cultural memory of Halloween, but am not sure that the time for a thing like that even exists anymore.

I really don't associate anything with Halloween, iit's tradition from many years ago. Children get a day to play act and enjoy candy, definitely a kid friendly holiday. Just finding put what some of the nursery rhymes mean can be quite disturbing however our kids loved to chant them

I always had my favourites to watch every Halloween from the Halloween triology series a few years ago. I had a bit of a meltdown this year and some people will still remember that post and photos when I tried to throw anything away that might be potentially offensive that I owned etc. Out went the Halloween series as well. Lots of things went out and none of them anything was wrong with it in reality. The post helped and so did the comments and I made changes to my life to go out more. I also asked for that single post to be deleted as I didn't want to post photos of my items in a meltdown to the internet.

Things I disposed of that where things potentially controverisal that I didn't know one way or the other. I threw out things also like an Easter bunny tea towel and plate. I also threw out a pair of lenses out to look in the sky because of potential offense. I lost things I didn't want to part with, I didn't need to part with a thing. It had always been ok for years and I have been looked after well. Theatre manuals and magnets were thrown out too. Joseph and the technicolour dreamcoat went. I got it back from the skip. During Bible study though later I heard it in Genesis 35-37 I think and I said to God there was nothing wrong with it. I heard of the controvesy. It is now on my fridge and I thought thank goodness, Whatever went went and God will dispose of it.

When you read of controversy it can make you become on guard.

The last few years I have spent more time with my faith developing with a change of circumstance. I always watched little televsion and now I hardly watch anything. I now don't watch anything violent. I know it is not real but I find it difficult to go back as well to watching anything like the Halloween triology again may be. I need to think about what I want. I was considering what to watch last week and was put off a few things because of the controversy around the topic. A theatre down the road was doing a show with a witch for children but the whole controversy made me not see it.

Now I go away and think about it all. Do I watch a movie or go and see may be Bettlejuice. I considered that for so long and would see it with no issues but the characters I don't know they someohow seem a bit scary at times. I don't know if anyone has seen it? Seems light enough for me good middle ground.

I need to do what feels right for me.

I though today very welcomed the consent to do something with Halloween from church without the internet and other peoples controversy being involved.

I am Messianic Jewish/Christian, but as a child and young adult, I was Pagan.

I do celebrate Halloween in the secular manner. I think trick or treating and everything associated with it is fun. But many Christians do not.

This is the first year since I was a little girl, where I didn't trick or treat at all. I stayed home and passed out candy. And that was so much fun. I was seriously a grown woman trick or treating with friends, before my daughter was born. I love it.

But to be honest, Halloween is not in any way a Christian holiday.

If you want the truth, without beating around the bush, or judgement in one direction or the other. :

Halloween is a Pagan holiday known as Samhain (Sowen or Saveen depending on the regional accent) that has origins in ancient Celtic and Pictish cultures and beliefs of Scotland, Ireland, and Wales.

There are no sacrifices or anything silly like that out of horror films or pop culture.

However, being a different religion- what Halloween truly represents isn't something at all that Christians believe or celebrate. As far as I know, the beliefs and traditions are completely different.

In the early Middle Ages, when The Catholic Church came to The British Isles, in a strategic move to try to encourage the local population to convert, they changed Samhain to All Saints Day. I am not a Catholic, however, and do not know much more about it other than this bit of info.

I had never heard of this case being born in 1973 it was before my time.
I had a brief look on Google at it and it seems that the CBS website has some updates as that suggested that someone had been arrested. I had however to stop reading as I found it too much to take in.
Centrally though it would be useful to know if Michael Skakel did he watch Halloween and I guess not as they started in 1978 right. So I guessed I just answered my own question. The event took place the day before Halloween so may be that may have affected them. I don't know I don't really want to start examining this case now.

However, what I read on it I am not sure there is any need for any Halloween fix after that so to speak as well how can it be a good read, it was a hideous event that shocked me a bit.

I'm thinking this Halloween may be of for me as well to look at it again next year. I think I was missing my usual routines at this time of the year and working my self up slightly over it.

I think the Church probably aims to be inclusive as well.

I do have some plans for today and they are all definitely peaceful lol.

There is another thread going on in this website. I added a link to Youtube of a video of me. I cannot stop laughing and explained about my weird sensory combination hypo sensory seeking and hyper sensitive. At fairs I like Ghost trains and Bumper cars and I am really sensory sensitive as well.

As I said there on the last page, I have had my chill factor for this year in one more ways that one.

A different time everyone. This was me on a Ghost train in 2020 June at Southend fair in Essex. They are my thing at all fairs and bumper cars as I wrote above.

What I posted is obviously the position of the Anglican church at least in my .diocese. If you haven't attended a church in sometime you might be surprised how some are changing. That though was the house of God and I shot those last Sunday. This picture was shot a pervious week so you can see it was definitely from a church.

Personally Imho witchcraft is very bad stuff, a very low a person can go, i don't want to participate in celebrations of that.

I think for some people and this perhaps includes yourself it is not your thing and you are entitled to that.

I think it can depend also how seriously you take it all. Some may just take it as a token fun thing to do once a year. Some I don't even know what to say about that might take it more seriously than even perhaps what is even beyond my imagination.

There is a saying as well When in Rome do as the Romans.

I was surpised to hear it come in at the sermon because as I said I was floudering what to do with it this year. I still haven't unpacked properly what the whole marrow things means and where it may extend to for me.

Me I am diagnosed autistic and have other co conditions. In the midst of all of that and doing the occasional Halloween token thing in the past God has been with me all along. Makes me think. It doesn't mean that things cannot be changed or perhaps it might be something best put in the past. It is for me to decide. I am just an average Joe trying to live my life though who is a Christian who God has upheld with a free spirit.

Witchcraft is manipulating spiritual things, to make the devil forces do something, is serious, and today people take it as a game and fun, in reality is not fun at all, is grave stuff, and you lose your soul doing that, so i don't want personally to have anything to do with that.

I have never been involved in any such dealings in my life and never will be.

Just yesterday I was at a park meeting my sensory needs and having some time out. Now I am wanting something a bit more stronger. I glanced at that Smile 2 wow.
Must say in my phase when I threw things out went Wicked from the theatre manual and magnets. I didn't even know what it was about to be honest. Apparently it tells a story about good against evil as well. Well let's say I am very hesitant about that one again.
