Can my PC run this?

Can a Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4690K @ 3.50GHz quad core run the game Stranded Alien Dawn?

When I checked, it seemed to imply that my CPU capabilities aren't sufficient.

The rest is super OK.

It looks pretty resource hungry.

The processors they're saying are needed are 6 and 8 cores. A lot also depends on what graphics card you're running, the better your graphics card the less drain in the main processor. Not always but in general.

Your cpu is two generations beyond what you need to run this game apart from a lower speed. But you already know this. You might check this out and attempt to install the game to see if:

1) it actually installs
and
2) it runs nominally at the lowest possible settings

Here are the Stranded: Alien Dawn System Requirements (Minimum)
  • CPU: Intel i7-6700 or AMD FX 8370
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • VIDEO CARD: Radeon RX 480 or GeForce GTX 1050 Ti
  • DEDICATED VIDEO RAM: 4096 MB
  • PIXEL SHADER: 5.1
  • VERTEX SHADER: 5.1
  • OS: Windows 10 64bit
  • FREE DISK SPACE: 15 GB

If I had to guess, I suspect that if you can even get it to run gameplay will be dismal.

But I can't help but wonder how well A Linux distro might run on your existing hardware platform. ;)

Thank you😊

My graphics card is very good, and RAM is more than the optimum required.
I really didn't want to get a new CPU.🙈
So, either I forget this game, or I upgrade my PC.

My system just failed the test on the recommended side but was OK on the minimum requirements, so it'll run but not well.

My other computer is also 12th generation but a Corei5 6 cores. I've been meaning and meaning to swap this graphics card on to that machine for a while now but haven't got around to it yet.

My other computer I built used an Intel i5-3570K CPU, 16GB of DDR3 RAM with an Nvidia GTX 650Ti .

Been running it quite well on Linux Mint 21.3 for a while. You may not be able to play that game, but you can likely run some great operating systems and software using Linux.

As for Windows 11, you'd be looking at replacing nearly everything.

Games also run a lot better in Linux if you can get them running. For years and years I used to dual boot both Linux and Windows and you could see a marked difference between the two when they're both running on the same machine.

Not all Windows apps will run through Linux, but when they do....oh boy. My 26 year old version of Photoshop 5.5 runs better in Linux Mint 22.0 than it did in Windows 10!

Yes, adapting to Linux takes some work....there is a learning curve given what you know about Windows doesn't go very far with Linux. But an open mind and a willingness to learn something new goes a long way.

Mine might need a new motherboard if I can't find compatible parts.
The poor thing is about 9 years old now.
It does have a new graphics card, new RAM card and a few other new bits. But not the cpu 🤷🏻‍♀️

I don't like Windows 11 🙈

I jumped from 95 to XP, then to 7 (after briefly using Vista), 10... I don't like 11.

Me neither. So far it seems like a trainwreck....worse than Windows 8 or ME. I suppose the big "test" of Windows 11 will be when it dumps their dreaded 24H2 upgrade on everyone supposedly this September.

Seriously, migrating to Linux was the best thing I've done in years. Though personally I've only looked at the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Linux games. I recently ran my older computer just to update Windows 10 which I haven't done in many months. Just having to look at Windows 10 made me ill.

Yeah, I like Linux Mint and Pop!OS that much. Though I haven't been an avid gamer in years.

The last Windows I had was XP. I put off installing that as long as I could too, it turned out to be one of their better operating systems in the end but when it first came out we called it Windows eXtra Problems.

Will need a new motherboard. And compatible ram. Too many generations apart.
I looked up through Intel to find that my "powerful" old i5-3570k CPU was about 45% slower than my new i5-2400f. Gives you an idea of how much things have changed between generations of Intel cpus.

Of course it also required a newer B760 motherboard, and 3200Mhz of 16GB RAM. Still running an older Nvidia GTX 1660Ti with it, though I want to get a faster (3060) video card.

I have way too many windows specific games that I paid for, and I never got along with the Wine emulator. Was never able to run my games with it.

My graphics card is a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER
16 GB RAM

I'm guessing that's DDR3 ram, correct? DDR4/5 is much faster now...with current motherboards requiring one or the other, or both. My 1660Ti is only 6GB of video ram....another reason to upgrade.

Wine ver. 9.0 works much better than earlier versions....at least that's my experience. Though I never had much luck running Windows games. I just use it for Photoshop and do not have it accessible to the Internet for security reasons.

If you decide to build yourself an upgrade also check that your power supply is compatible, some processors require an 8 pin plug for power.
