Calum Titmus: The autistic skating star preparing for the Special Olympics

The parents of an autistic figure skating star said he would be "stuck in a room" unless they spent £20,000 a year on activities for him.

Titmus has become a top ice skater who represents Britain in the Special Olympics.

The 21-year-old, from Peterborough, has already won 30 medals in his category, mainly in figure skating and speed skating.

His family said unless they spent the money he would be "stuck in a room", probably watching Disney movies, which he loves.

He is currently preparing for the Special Winter Olympics in Austria.

i am glad for calum, its an interest he loves, its good to put a skill to good use.
its good to see a intellectually disabled autistic doing well talked about for once.

how does the UK special olympics cost 20 000 for him? for me,training was £5 a session,we had one session a week, the only thing that costed more was the diesel to get from manchester to crewe.
however ive never gone international and i do know from two of my mates who are both international special olympics athletes [gymnast and boccia] that its costlier then, the gymnast had to raise £20000 i think to compete in the US,i cant remember if that was just for her or the whole team.
