Bipolar disorder resources inquiry

Anyone know how I should go about helping a friend whose wife has bipolar disorder and depression? It seems to be getting very serious. Any resources or groups online or in or near the Philly area I'd like to consider. Any reputable or non-reputable resources I should consider or not consider? Thank you very much.
