Bioshock (video game)

I have seen people mention Bioshock in various threads, but I have not found a thread specifically for Bioshock.

Did you ever play it? Did you enjoy it?

I'm just playing through it now. I completed the original and am now onto the remastered version of the original/doing some achievement hunting, since the remastered version has achievements and the original-original did not.

I don't know why, but I could never really get into it. My wife absolutely loves it, but I think I really prefer the classics that came before it. I think the RPG-lite elements really threw me off, TBH; Quake, Doom, Blake Stone, and Wolfenstein were always my sweet spot.

Bioshock has more in common with games like Deus Ex, Strife, and especially System Shock 2. In fact, I remember when it came out years ago, the biggest criticism was about how it was dumbed down compared to SS2.

I happen to really like Deus Ex games too, so this sort of game is enjoyable for me. Though I wish I'd have played it around its release date, as I imagine I'd have enjoyed it even more than I do now, with my years of gaming exposure since then and possibly a little gaming fatigue at hand.

I've played the original before, but I never finished it.

I tend not to get along with FPS games all that much. But also there was just way too much yapping. It's really, REALLY rare that I take an interest in the story of any game... as I find that most of them have the pacing of a dead slug... and I didnt find that one to really be any different. So I hit like... probably the halfway point and lost interest.

Not to mention I was getting really disillusioned with that side of the industry at that point. Around that time I was mostly playing fighting games and retro stuff. Bioshock is one of the last AAA games I remember buying.

Come to think of it, the only FPS games I ever cared for were Wolfenstein 3D, Doom 1 and 2, Hexen, and Superhot. Like just let me dodge fireballs and stuff (or do whatever the heck is happening in Superhot) while exploring weird labyrinths, and I'm good to go. No, [insert villain name here], dont start talking about philosophy or something, there's some fireballs over there that you arent throwing at me, do that instead.
