Autism. What is our place in society?

Voltaic

Darth Binks is real.
We are diffrent. That, blanket statment even with the holes can be generally agreed upon. infact, to spare my tourture of writing on an ipad, i am just going to keep making generalisations.

We are joined together by our diffrence to others. here, it is normal to be diffrent. As a group, not just on this forum, but for all NDs, what is our role in society today? Most of the time, i hear people getting pushed around because of our diffrences, with the exception of a few who flourish at what they do.

From my general perception... of others peception, i see a lot of people only deffining us by the stuggles we have, but praise us when the lucky one or two rise above the rest.

that just leaves us normal, un-normal people deffined by only our struggles. The far majority of us do not fit the steryotypical 'sheldon' role.

Genius or sick. Generally, the two roles in wich the world precives us. Two words, to describe a whole population of unique individuals?

so, to get to my point. What would be our best place in society? as a group of individuals who both strive, and fall to the struggles of how we are born, what path can we as a group carve out for ourselfs in the future?

I dont want to be part of a group, that means conforming to how that group acts. i dont want to have others view me, and pitty me for being sick, but i do not want the title of genius as well.

having the title of 'autistic' seems to come with a lot of other titles, ones i dont want to take on. i am okay with being autstic, i am not okay with being sick, or even a genius.

people like to place others into a group. we can not escape that. When they continue to deffine us by the misconceptions of what little they know about being autstic, how can we steer the worlds thoughts to something more healthy for both NTs, and NDs? what would the end goal even look like?

Well. Since our kind are increasing at an insanely fast rate i think there should be a well constructed education class in elementary schools. Designed for harmonious interactions between NT and ND.

Another huge one probably the biggest of all is media. Shows and movies tend to go with the cartoony stereotype. News rarely ever paints us in an equal or positive light. But that's because they don't deal in positivity they deal in negativity.

The medical industry also needs a serious overhaul. Won't get into that one.

These are all things none of us can change unless one of you happen to be in an influential position of power and prefer your heart over the dollar. In these industries. Individually there isn't much we can do because other people just don't care about learning about it. For the few who do it's because a loved one has it. You see them come here asking for advice with their family members or partners.

I mean lets say an NT was bi polar and they started bi polar awareness. Formed marches, made youtube videos, got trendy meme's going on social media etc. Lets also say nobody in your life had it. Would you still use your time on digesting a content that isn't relevant to you? It would automatically be filtered out. Unless you read this message and consciously decided to try and prove me wrong, that would reguide awareness to spot things on bi polar. :p But even then you are overriding the automation and in doing so only demonstrate a need to be right and not to learn about the condition itself.

Most people. Mainly NT's. Are hard-wired to win. Not to learn. So something that should be taken in and thought upon becomes a meaningless debate in which most will learn nothing meaningful. You can see this all the time in abundance with political posts via social media.

Anyway i think our role in society has been created to bring about innovation and expertise. Rapidly advance technology. Since aspie's tend to specialize in an area and exceed their NT counterparts by light years. Had a really interesting talk with a psychologist once...*Now entering theoretical speculation* It's dark but could be a soft kill tactic for those on lower end of the spectrum. People on govt benefits increasing along with the autism rates. Country goes broke, war breaks out and many can't defend themselves. After this... money and the population can be stabilized. Order out of chaos. New laws, new rule. New way of life.

Society is a construct built by people for people. No one really has a place in it they simply make place for themselves and if they can't they reject society altogether. There's really no wrong way to go about it. However many autistic people are responsible for the greatest achievements in humanity. Honestly without autism, we might still be in the stone ages.

We have nothing to prove to anyone.

My place in society: flying under the radar, thriving on the skills my ASD grants me. I don't feel like I'm part of any group, nor do I desire to be, but I have a few social circles which I enjoy being a part of.
