Autism, did your father work with high current electricity?

I have a theory:
- If autism is determined at conception
- Assuming you are an aspie, Did your father work with high current electricity when you were conceived?

My grand father worked for the Bell Telephone Company when my father was conceived.
My father work with IBM mainframe computers when I was conceived.

What is your father/family history?

My Father became a shop steward after he returned from WW2. Most of the machinery was electrified and of german make . Some of the older machinery was hand cranked or run by hydro. That would have been about the time I was conceived. Both of my parents may have had autistic traits.

That is an interesting theory. In my case, besides some question concerning my parentage, I've often wondered if tobacco use may have been the culprit. Both my parents smoked, as did my maternal grandparents. Before she died, my mother smoked five packs a day. That much intake of smoke, nicotine, etc, etc must have had some sort of effect on me while she was still carrying me and for years thereafter.

I've been wondering about this also since I was in a similar situation as yours, and if in my case it was more environmental than genetics at play. I don't think I'll get a straight answer to that in this lifetime though.

Back to the original post: as far as my family history goes, nobody that I can think of has worked with high current electricity...unless I'm missing something. My father and both grandfathers that I know of were involved in "male" jobs (like welding, which I think my father still does for a living). No offense to the ladies or anyone here when I use that term, that's the only way I can describe it.

My father is a contractor so he basically works on anything building related. I guess it's likely, though it's infrequent depending on what he's doing on a specific day.

Nope. My father was a career naval officer and civil engineer.

Though both my parents smoked. My father quit in 1963 and my mother never quit, and it was considered a contributing factor in her death at age 81 according to the coroner.

My sperm donor was a labourer/petty criminal.

My brother (who is also suspected of having AS) has a different dad, and he is an engineer.

I think the link for us is through our Mum.
