Assessment this morning

So, I had an hour appointment this morning with an Initial Mental Health Assessment Team.
They are referring me. Apparently there's a waiting list and they can't give me any idea how long it is, but first step made and I am more than happy.
Should have had an hour there, but it took two :) I had a lot to say.

So, in the meantime i'll just keep doing my research and do my best to get out of my head a little bit.

Just want to say a massive thank you to everyone on this site though as I would never have thought in a million years that there would be people out there like me xx

I would imagine it is because a) there is a high demand and b) there isn't enough funding for more psychologists.

Ok, was you actually sent for a diagnosis with aspergers in mind or was it a case that they needed to see you at various times during that 2 year period before they could diagnose?

Sorry. Just really hope I've not got to wait that long :(

My psychologist did the Baron-Cohen AQ test and referred me. I expected those people who were worse on the spectrum than me got seen first. Thats only fair

I've since been told that if I get a place at uni then I will be able to go through testing etc to pick up on ability and disabilities in order to have 'support in learning'............. The ONLY thing I've ever begged for in 45 years :)

Congratulations !

I was on the NHS autism assessment waiting list for less than an year. This is in London and I was seen at St Pancras hospital. Though my referral was as the result of the ADHD diagnosis at the same St Pancras hospital. This may explain the reduced waiting time.

Sounds like you are doing all the rights things !

Good luck.

I have read on the BBC news site a few months ago that the waiting time in some areas is 4 years at the moment I am hoping that doesn't apply to my area. I am going to see my GP soon to get the ball rolling. Hope things go well for you and the wait isn't too long.

Well,
I got to say that i'm going to do my very best to pull out all the stops my end.

Where there's a will there's a way and I am on a mission to be heard. No stone will be left unturned.
