Aspies, do we get more passionate or excited than NTs?

I cant think of another thread that this topic fits in so here it is. I have a favorite show each week. its called RWBY and i love it!! I heard about it through a friend on FB chat and It had already gone 4 seasons by then and I got lucky that I could watch it in its entirety in 78 episodes together at once. I decided they had to get another season and kept asking them to no avail. The end had a cliffhanger as if they had already thought of that but nothing said they did either. I had to wait. a year. I would in the mean time go over and over and over the old episodes and music from the show bc it is just that cool. I recommend it to everyone btw. on the Youtube channel "Rooster Teeth". its just started the 5th season and is on the 2nd episode!! I'm like a little child on Christmas who asked for their favorite my little pony toy and Santa brought it and I'm screaming and screaming and dancing bc I got what iv been begging for all year. I LOVE this show each week. Idk if its quite obsession but just about. Is this normal for us? Or is this just me? Do we all get passionate about things that we love or just me? Anyone else on here share my love for things?

I usually get super excited about things no one around me knows about. I love the fact that my boyfriend (and a select few friends) is patient enough to listen to me and ask interested questions about subjects that
a) he know nothing about
b) he doesn't understand
c) he probably never will care about
d) I'll probably stop talking about in a few weeks when I've found a new thing to get excited about

yes yes YEEEEEEESSSS!!!! I am the same way!! I was riding to church once with my dad a few years ago and we passed a field that had a sign by the road way and it said "3 acres for sale". I looked at my dad and asked "Hey dad, how many feet are in 3 acres? I mean if there are 3 acres for sale that must be a lot of feet of land". He looked back at me and said "why do you ask such weird questions???" I said "i like to know things Im just interested in many different kinds of things" I remember a few weeks ago at work at the daycare my coworker was coloring with the kids and he was doing a word search or whatever where it says come up with as many words as you can in x catagory and had blanks to write your answers. from a kids activity book. He looked at me and asked if a name was a word. I was like idk let me ask. So I weirdly thought of my dad of all people to ask who thinks im weird lol and understands my questions least or who cares least but I in the moment asked him LOL. I texted him and asked "hey is a name a word?" he answers "Why do you always ask such weird things?" I was like "no no no my coworker asked me if a name was a word idk why but I thought I assume so but I thought id ask." "he said um ok. well, I assume so. I mean if you say it its a word" lol. I always ask my dad things he thinks are weird. lol he says I have the STRANGEST interest in things and am obsessed with strange-a$$ things lol

Haha, very relatable. I've started (attempted) self-censoring at times when I realize that the thing I'm super excited about is really not that interesting to the person I'm talking to. I don't always succeed in time though. I also have extensive knowledge of the butt, but that's mostly because I'm a doctor :P

I know this woman that watched The Walking Dead Seasons seasons 1 to 5, three times, season 6, two times... a boy that has been talking (and playing, and watching videos of how to play better), about Splatoon 1 and 2 for four months in a row... a girl that ended up knowing so much about My Little Pony, that she even knew the names of the women who made the voices of each character, and every little detail of how the series was made...
That’s me, my son, and my daughter :D.

I get insanely carried away by things I'm interested in. And obsessed, too, which further fuels the enthusiasm.
I got really, really into a documentary on some obscure and mostly forgotten singer last night. I tried my best to refrain mentioning it to my boyfriend earlier today, but slipped and started talking about it. After listening for a while, he just asked: "How do you know about that person?", and my reaction was "Why the heck not wouldn't I?", but now that I think of it, yes, it is an unlikely topic for someone my age or someone with zero ties to the country the guy was from. Not that it would stop me, though.

I intially clicked "Agree", but upon 2nd thought, I agree to such an extent, and you've worded it so infinitely more clearly than I would have that I had to reconsider.

I almost passed out near the end of last year's season of Game of Thrones. I get way to invested in my tv shows.

I have been keeping my eye on the development of this software called "Visual Novel Maker" since October 8th 2016. (I know because that's the date I added it to my Steam wishlist.) Now it finally has a release date - November 16th - but the wait is killing me! It's dominating my thoughts and I count down the days one at a time.

The thing that excites me the most about this software is that it comes with 11 different characters with multiple outfits and facial expressions. It's truly a blessing for people like me who struggle with character creation but still want to tell stories. It makes me kind of sad that people in the Steam discussion group are already saying that they frown upon the premade characters.

To me, these characters feel almost "alive" and are practically begging to be included in my stories. Not only am I super excited to use them myself but I'm also interested to see what other people do with them too. I just hope that other people who use the software will treat the characters with dignity and respect.

(Gosh, I feel like the guy from "Her" - talking about a computer program as though it actually has feelings and a personality... I hope I'm not weirding anybody out...:flushed:)

This is a great thread. What is the line between Passion and Obsession? I get passionate INDEED, but I feel insulted if people call it an obsession. So this is all about the things we LOVE but are not BOTHERED by?? Is that the difference?

Yes. Although now I'm in my 30s I try to tone it down in public as I can't really get away with it! But if I like something, I LOVE it! And if I dislike something, I HATE it! There is very little middle ground for me. I get very excited and curious over the stupidest little things that no one else cares about. But I can't imagine what it's like to walk around half asleep and see the world in blurry monotone like most other people do.

Who was the singer?

Who was the singer?
Are you sure you want to open Pandora's box?
Wilson Simonal. Whom, long story short, until then I thought was a terrible person who had played some role in the Brazilian military police in the 1970s but was actually basically framed because he was more successful than anyone and a Black man in a very racist Brazilian society, along with having no support network from fellow singers who were extremely jealous, and having an inappropriate sense of humor that led the guy to joke "Yeah right, I am part of the department" --except mass media jumped on the occasion to claim it was a confession that he was helping with the dictatorship, and because his counterparts hated him, he got zero support; and I'm explaining this terribly bad, but I'm also trying to keep it short, so that's why. Anyway, the guy was a fantastically gifted entertainer who lost it all and then came alcohol, liver failure and years trying to clear his name until he died. But it was a great documentary, really. This confused rambling was brought to you by Katleya's special interest #232. Let's hope that Judge, who counts totalitarian regimes among his special interests, decides to join & provide some context on Brazil in those days.

I don't know if I'm more passionate, but many friends of mine comment that I seem to have a hyper passion about my photography, compared to many others around me, and I just do it for a hobby...

Also one of my passions is obscure European cars, if I meet the "right" person who seems to share that interest I can sometimes get over excited... At a car show this past summer, in the middle of nowhere in Alberta, one collector came in a 1920's Minerva, a rather rare car that was manufactured in Belgium, one of few car manufacturers to ever call Belgium home... I probably spent way too much around that car, enough said... :)

Yessss!
I think we Aspies are more aware of the little things that NTs pay no attention to probably because it would be unbecoming to their ideals of what being adult means.

I notice things others pay no attention to and have curiosities over odd ball stuff that I'm sure bores others to death. It's like I want to understand how it all works. All the little intricate things about everything.
And when I find something I really get into I express how I feel with excitement. I don't care if it seems childish or doesn't fit with the " adult " way to act.
:)

I'm not sure if we get more excited or passionate in general, though I'd be inclined to say that we're more likely than NTs to be excited or passionate about things that they simply have little or no interest in.

At least this has been my experience more often than not. :(

Leads me to believe that excitement and passion are fine, as long as the subject matter fits their unwritten rules and criteria. When it doesn't, expect to be censored- or worse.

Yes definitely I do get passionate about my interests,I had to learn over the years not to go on and on to people about my interests and unfortunately my husband gets the brunt of it at times.

that is how I am. I get obsessed with stuff and I focus on it for the longest time . I have specific TV shows that I watch so much. There is an Anime that I watched for the longest time and I was so into this animate that I would literally get my laptop out since I can't watch it on my TV and I don't feel like sitting at my PC this much I would get a pretty sore butt and back but I would take it to my bed or I would sit on the couch or lay on the couch or what have you and I would just watch watch watch back to back to back every episode and then I would pause and go let my dog out and come back and watch watch watch them get up and go to the bathroom and watch watch watch and then I would have to remind myself at some point I have to eat and then I would take the food to wherever and watch watch watch while I'm eating until I finished the whole series and like literally a few days and I would watch it as long into the night as I could before I started to get tired and I knew I had to go to work in the morning and I had to be up by six but I would watch it probably until midnight and then I would have to tell myself alright I'm finishing this little bit of the episode and then I'm pausing it and saving it for tomorrow I was like so obsessed with it and then I had to remind myself when the episodes were all done and I wanted to start a new anime I had to give myself a break so that I could do real-life stuff and actually pay attention to my dog more than just a quick run outside and then back . I give it like a week before I went crazy on another anime.

Can we start a society of people who ask weird questions?
Yes yes yes! I love to ask really weird questions. I mean I don't go looking for the dumbest thing I can ask I don't like search Google for what is the dumbest question a person can ask for the top 10 things that are the dumbest thing but I do always ask really strange things because I always like to know interesting facts I watch weird things that nobody else really likes to watch like people in my age range don't like to sit down and intentionally watch documentaries about Lewis and Clark or Thomas Jefferson or Abraham Lincoln usually boring . Most of the time people my age are interested in walking dead or stranger things or game of thrones. Nobody in their 20s is gonna watch historical documentaries that's kind of boring for most people my age but I like the odd stuff. I like to learn fascinating fascinating things like that and I like to show where what's his face helps celebrities learn about their ancestry that's fascinating to me and I like to watch the science channel and the discovery channel and the history channel and one time I watched the science channel I think that's the channel and they were building a outdoor air conditioner unit and they were showing you the ins and outs of how such a unit is built from the ground up in a factory each and every step of the factory process until completed and sent to someone's house and as boring as that kind of was it was kind of fascinating at the same time just think that that started from nothing and that little bitty unit does all of that work empowers people's houses and without that we wouldn't have cool air in our houses and we don't die of heat exhaustion in the summertime and it was neat to see I watched them build heating units to once because I thought if they can make those I wonder what it looks like to make heating units . And then I started to question well what about this if they can make that what about this and my dad was like who cares ? And I said I don't know I'm probably gonna forget about it tomorrow but in the moment that was kinda cool . And that's usually how it works, I get interested in things that are probably stupid interests and I get interested for a moment but in that moment I'm totally fascinated like that was really cool information and then I don't care after that but for a moment I'm like well that was really interesting what about this or what about this . You should've seen my latest Facebook post on The Walking Dead. I basically was watching the hundredth episode and then did the Talking Dead special that was live at some Greek theater and I had never thought that the cast of walking dead had accents I thought they were really good American accents so I never noticed and it threw me off to hear the main character with an accent I just don't think of Rick with an accent and then it threw me off to hear Morgan with an accent because there American accents are so different . And then I started questioning how is it that they did so good at the American accent and then that threw me into the question why are there so many different dialects of American English ? And that made me wonder why or how did it get that way because the original English doesn't that only just have one dialect or does it have more dialects and I started to get like curious and kind of obsessed now I need to know this and nobody answered my Facebook but I was very curious . I probably ask such weird questions that nobody wants to bother with it . I have gotten quite a reputation with my dad for asking weird questions anytime a weird question is brought up to him he thinks Lara must've come up with that, lol

Yes I do that sometimes there was one time I went on and on about something on a voicemail I don't remember what it was I just remember the experience and the result I just don't remember what it was that I said but it was something I was going on and on about and I was doing this on a voicemail to my mom I don't really remember making a voicemail but I do stuff like this often enough that I believe it and she's told me about it many times but I was going on and on and on on his voicemail to my mom and she's listening to it and talking to the voicemail like "Lara Lara hello! stop talking so I can answer you. hello Lara! this is a voicemail you're not even talking to me" and she was embarrassed and she hung up the voicemail and stoped talking back to it lol. and then she told me and told me about it how I was going on so much that shestopped listeningand she didn't even realize that it was a voicemailand she thought I was really talking to her and she was trying to get me to shut up so she could answer meand get a word in edge wise and then she realized it was just a voicemail and said that was the most annoying voicemail. so I tried tonot get passionateon the phonebut sometimes when I'm talking about something that I likeI just go on and on and you can tellwhenI'm passionate about something.
