Are there people you really admire?

They can be historical figures that you think were awesome, or somebody alive today.

The historical figure I most admire is John James Audubon, because he depicted such a variety of birds and mammals with amazing scientific detail and artistic liveliness - the same things I want to do with my sculptures. Nobody since him has done anything of similar scope and beauty in either scientific illustration or wildlife art (at least in my opinion).

Of living people, I guiltily admit I really admire my research advisor. He's done most of the things established scientists can do - publish lots of papers, edit a journal, be president of a scientific society, be a department head. And he's nice and funny and almost always has time for his students.

Oh yes there are a few famous people I admire, both dead and alive. One of those being Charles Darwin for his revolutionary contribution to modern science. Also Jane Goodall and a few more but I can't think of them.

Charles Darwin, Thomas Huxley, Karl Marx, and Richard Dawkins. :-)

Good ones! I agree about Darwin, especially: my favorite thing about him was that he actually collected a lot of scientific specimens. I love making specimens (which basically is a quick form of taxidermy) and although it's weird, looking at all those animals close up and stuffing them helped Darwin come up with his theories.

Speaking of Darwin, my mum's best friend thinks Darwin was the one who saw the apple fall from the tree.:nah: That was Isaac Newton!

Ha! I love the animal science/ biology theme. Excellent choices guys. :)

Historical: Konrad Lorenz!
Personal: My first year anthro prof, who I admire for his integrity and dedication in his work and life. His encouragement and advice has had a HUGE impact on my life.

Konrad Lorentz ... sounds familiar... go to Wikipedia... oh, DUH! I learned about him in Animal Behavior class.

I'm actually most admired by Stevie Wonder.

His music is so uplifting at times and really touching, I could just spend all day and all night listening to his songs. :)

Tim Burton (director/producer), Crispin Glover (actor), Helena Bonham Carter (actress), Henry Darger (outsider artist), Lewis Carroll (man of many talents, most famous for writing Alice in Wonderland)
