You mean a shop called Throat Punch? Not sure if it is appealing, but I like it. :) I would visit that shop. It's a strong name. And a little funny, unusual.

I suppose it depends on the intent behind choosing such a name.

To establish a warm, fuzzy reaction, or to grab someone by the lapels sufficient to give in to their own sense of curiosity and pay them a visit?

Or consider the reality of "Death Wish Coffee". Which despite the name, apparently is highly regarded with many coffee critics and apparently sells quite well.

How cute, kind or friendly can this be? Marketing can frequently take some interesting turns.

#1 Organic and #1 Fair Trade Coffee

There is a bar here called "Rumpa Bar". "Rumpa" means butt. And the word bar means bar, but it also means naked/exposed/not covered. So that's a good name. :) Double entendre.

There could be some worse names for the coffee shop also with the word "throat" in it...
Might be more appropriate if it were in a basement.

Or formally endorsed by the FBI.

To me the name Throat Punch doesn't suggest that the coffee's good but it is something that'll stick in the mind and it's also only two syllables so people won't shorten it or truncate it.

Coffee's a huge market in Australia and we have coffee shops everywhere, it's hard to find a bad one because they don't stay in business long. We mostly don't go in for large franchises and prefer to support our little corner shops. Out of curiosity I started searching local coffee shop names and it seems there's no trend. Almost anything goes.

I agree with this. I find my opinion on such a thing is influenced by knowing a bit more of the story. In this case, I think it's not an amazing name and comes off as trying too hard to be shocking, but I suppose I can appreciate the attempt to be lighthearted.

Sensationalizing names like that don't appeal to me.
Like Caribou coffee shop here.
What do Reindeer know about making coffee?
But then what are Star Bucks? Really.
Male deer from another star system?

Hmmm. I think this guy is contemplating the question. :p✨🦌

I really don't know the context of why the name should be funny or appealing, but I would probably never enter such a place even if I did have that knowledge. I like things that are pleasant.
