Apartment interactions with tenants

I don’t think this is normal but wanted to get some responses to see how others feel about it.

I realize some of the things my ASD brain interprets as correct are in fact incorrect so I divulge:

I live in a very large building complex , a mile around, 10 buildings with over 3000 people living here.

We have a building called “Resident Computer Center”... key word is “resident.”
There is a sign in clock for the employees and for some reason it really bothers me.

I need a work space and this is close to me and always opened, yet half the time there are 10 to 20 employees just chatting loudly or signing in with tons of traffic. They even just updated the place with more chairs, apparently for the employees as they are usually sitting in them.

I said something to the secretary who takes notes for managements meetings and she kind of looked at me crazy.
 
In my opinion, you're not incorrect. A resident space is just that; for residents. The same way that a staff room is for staff.

Do they have a staff rest area? If so, just go and sit in there for a few hours reading/listening to music - see how that goes down :D
 
Sounds no different than the large apartment complex I live in. Where the administration building with the property management offices is common to a kitchen, exercise room and computer/DVD workstation all for the tenants. What I'd call a "Neurotypical Nirvana". :eek:

Perhaps a great and natural setup for them- just not for us. Where you have chatty tenants and chatty employees all within earshot of each other. Essentially leaving anyone trying to concentrate at the computer workstation out of luck. :(

Yeah. I suspect if made a similar comment, they'd look just as cross-eyed at me as well.

Not much left to say, other than housing where I am is sparse and the management is acutely aware of it. Consequently when it comes to landlord/tenant relations, I pick my battles very carefully. ;)

So I only go in there to pay my rent each month and for no other reason if I can help it.

Yes they do, but without a sign in clock and where they go to eat and it is a different building not too far away .. it is often used for resident clubs as well. It’s extremely weird, but I never see the employees there lols.


The gym was horrible for awhile, but they are finally rebuilding that too I guess it’s kinda slummy
 
Is there a library nearby that you could use? That would be a quiet work area and they usually have computers for you to use.

Maybe make a suggestion to the building manager or whoever is in charge. Suggest that things be rearranged to give a quieter place for people to get work done on the computers, and leave a space for the people who want a place to socialize. Out of 3000 people, I'm sure you're not the only one who feels this way.
 
I don't think you're in the wrong here at all. A workspace is a workspace, not a place for people to socialize. Maybe the secretary gave you a weird look because the computer room is one of her fave hangouts for chatting with her friends? :D Seriously, though, I'm sure you're not the only person to feel this way. What's the point of having this space if it can't even be used for what it's designed for? I would write an email to head management expressing your feelings. You're totally within your rights to do that, and I don't think anyone reasonable would think you're in the wrong.
