Anything by Tolkien other than LOTR and TH worth reading?

Is there anything by Tolkien other than Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit worth reading?

I've been thinking of getting some more Tolkien books but I'm not sure what to get. It seems like most books by Tolkien other than the aforementioned get pretty mixed reviews. Most seem to be unfinished books that were completed by Tolkien's son.

One that I'm thinking of getting is The Silmarillion:

If considering The Silmarillion, try to borrow a copy, unless you find you really like it. It is totally different and much harder reading than than the others!
Edit: Oh, that's a really old post. How do you find these things?

This one may not be to everyone's taste as it was very obviously written for his son... I actually really enjoyed the story of Roverandom. I would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of Tolkien's work and just looking for something short and fun.

I liked the book 'The Letters of JRR Tolkien'. It's just that, some of his letters, to his son, editors, fans, etc, but many during his main composition period of LOTR. You can read critical analysis of JRRT from now till doomsday, but this is the backstory from the Pony's mouth, so to speak.

'Children of Hurin' is ok. It's basically one portion of The Sil.

Yeah I had the similanion and read it yes the language is really thick and struggled with some words though it did give some stories about how the elves came to be and about morgoth.

I know this thread is very old, but I am a bit of a Tolkien nerd myself. I think the Silmarillion is excellent, and have read it 4 times.
