On an outing September 11,2014,I visited the Carnegie Science Center for a day of fun and education.
One part of my outing included a tour of the USS Requin submarine docked on the Ohio River in one of the Steel City's three rivers.USS Requin, a Tench-class submarine, was the only ship of the United States Navy to be named after the requin, a sand shark. After her tour of duty she was used for museum tours in Florida before coming to Pittsburgh Pa USA to her final resting place as part of our cultural center.
In my various travels,I met a friend who is now departed who served on a tench Class sub during World war II.
When the Requin arrived at her final dock, Harvey told us of his time spent aboard that class of sub. "Hot,cramped smelly and damp....you will never get me to see her...I hated that part of the Navy"
