An American "Doc Martin" is coming in January

I'm sorry to hear this as my wife will likely make me watch it as well. :(

I'm skeptical that it will even survive a single season here. The original show was great, and presently commands a transatlantic audience in syndication.

However I suspect the demographic the network and creators are looking for may well be the same people that have no interest in seeing a faithful remake. Especially given that the original series ended only three years ago.

And given most other television shows here, the creators tend to remain ambiguous over characters whether they are neurodivergent or not. Preferring to avoid it altogether.

Here's hoping. I nearly crawl out of my skin every time my wife goes to re-runs on the original.

I found the show rather amusing myself. Though I don't see myself watching the reruns either.

I just don't understand network thinking that would want to test the idea with the original series only three years old. Geez, in the movies it's usually 20 to 30 years before they create another inferior remake.

Of course I have to assume that neurodiversity will never be overtly mentioned in the remake.

I have enough awkward socialization situations of my own that I don't have a desire to watch more. I don't do shared embarrassment well.

I'm glad you pointed that out. I haven't seen the show in some time, and just now recalled how some episodes truly hurt, and were not in the least funny at all. Not for me on a very personal level.

Always wincing a bit whenever he often messed up with Louisa Glasson, his girlfriend, wife and mother of his children. Admittedly a very real scenario, yet they never played up his neurodiversity.
