Adam Lanza "in complete denial of his disease"

A few months ago I found a now out of print book in a thrift store. Newtown, An American Tragedy by Matthew Lysiak. Lysiak interviewed practically anybody he could get to talk. He noted that Peter and Ryan Lanza refused to be interviewed, but that the vast majority of people he approached talked.

Lysiak's book paints a portrait of a severely mentally ill Adam, one who was obsessed with murder and death from a surprisingly young age, and how Nancy tried again and again to get him help and NOBODY at all would listen. Most of them just blew it off, oh he's a little weird, he'll grow out of it, seemed to be the consensus of anybody who Nancy approached.

Nancy clung to the few people who showed an interest in helping Adam, such as the technology teacher at Newtown High, and when he left she pretty much gave up on Adam. She tried to get him to attend a local college, but he quickly dropped out. He spent the last THREE YEARS of his life playing extremely violent video games such as Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and doing research on serial killers. He corrected tiny details on the wikipedia pages of killers, at one point taking offense when a 9mm pistol was described as a ".9mm".

Starting in the spring of 2010 Adam ceased to post on wikipedia and online discussion forums. ALL he did was play shooter video games, so far as anybody knows. He barely ate or slept. He basically moved between his basement dungeon and his upstairs bedroom so that he could sleep. By then Nancy decided he was a lost cause and decided to globetrot and enjoy herself-without him-and left him TV dinners for food, which he barely touched.

Nancy had once been her son's biggest advocate, but by 2010 she gave up on him. The brick wall won. Then Adam killed her and drove to Newtown High, but there was a cop in a marked cop car parked in the lot, so he drove to Sandy Hook Elementary as plan B. It reminds me of that old Johnny Cash song Mama Tried, where the boy turns into a crook despite mama's efforts.
Hello Oregano, I personally get real creeped out by those shooter games, it seems to really desensitize one to human violence. I've heard that the mother was the one that got him obsessed with guns, owning thirty or so, and all their neighbor's considered her a nut job herself.

As of this writing, the News Times comment section doesn't seem so bad. A lot of posts from the handle "animalsandmonsters" jabbering about the spiritual meaning of Newtown and the shooting being orchestrated by some sort of supernatural devil-type figure. I suppose the "KILL ALL AUTISTICS AND CRAZIES AND BAN GUNS!" weirdos haven't gotten the opportunity to climb out of their caves yet.

Hi,

I don't "jabber". I produce substantial and meaningful commentary outside of typical or commonly held ideas and beliefs. Your opinion is your opinion but I can plainly see you've missed the mark, three times.

The newstimes comment section is a headache. Newcomers often remark in complaint about how awful the comments section is. You took a limited look and walked away with an inaccurate perception.

If you truly read and understood my commentary, you'd see that I said nothing about any " devil-type figure". In fact, I stated clearly quite the opposite but will not restate myself here.

My background is religion and spirituality. You are free to disbelieve but not free to misconstrue and misrepresent my commentary.

The actual FBI files are available. I scanned through all 1500 pages. If you care to, part 2 has both the Prosecutor's Summary and the statement from his longest online social contact. These 2 documents give the clearest picture of his activities, background, and thinking.

Nothing like source material to dis-spell media sensationalism.

To animalsandmonsters: I apologize for misconstruing your posts on the Times News. I can be rather ribald in my language sometimes without thinking of how it might come across to others. Also, I seem to have misread the intent of your comments-it is hard for anybody to understand another person's intent using just a few short posts on an internet forum, and especially so for somebody like me with my processing difficulties. I have frequently been on the receiving end of having internet posts misconstrued and/or taken offense by others, only to have said people double down on their views when confronted. Therefore, I will quickly say to you that I sincerely apologize for any perceived mischaracterization and mocking of your posts that I did, and that it was in no way a deliberate attempt to attack your character or beliefs. After 23 years posting to the internet (as of January 2018) I can be somewhat tough skinned and dismissive.

What page numbers of Part 2 are these documents on? Part 2 has 535 pages.

This is very problematic. Whenever someone happens to be ASD and commits a violent offense, people will paint people on the spectrum as raving lunatics. I'm just being honest. This kind of reminds me of when bipolar is blamed for committing violent offenses. I know being bipolar and being ASD are not the same. I'm just showing the similarity of people lumping everyone together. It's ridiculous to do so.

One of my best friends is bipolar. He's a wonderful human being and there's no body I'd rather hang out with. There was a time before he went to therapy and learned to practice CBT that his life was a mess, but with the right strategies, his life is manageable and doing well. People really don't understand bipolar and stigmatize people with it way too much.

Unfortunately it's just a little too easy to villify someone who is deceased, whether or not they deserve it, or on what grounds.

Which at times forces me to ponder whether the intent is to actually villify Adam Lanza, or forms of autism. o_O
